Hawker Beechcraft Strike: Day Two

The burning question of the strike is if and/or when there might be new contract talks.

For now, striking machinists insist they're willing to endure the heat for, as they like to say, "one day longer".

"One day longer!" One day longer! One day longer!"

This is the chant being heard from any of the Hawker Beechcraft gates.

"One day longer is something we say that's very important to us. The theory
behind that is, 'How long are you willing to stay out? We're willing to
stay out one day longer than the company can afford to have us out," said machinist spokesman Bob Wood.

Wood says the 90 percent contract rejection vote and 89 percent strike vote are mandates from the members.

The question is, does this mean it will be a long strike or not?

Martin Perline, PhD
WSU Economics Professor
"No, I don't think it tells you how long the strike will be. It tells you
there is strong opposition to the contract on the part of the union
membership," said Dr. Martin Perline, WSU Economics Professor.
