Dana Priest of Washington Post quick to point out got story from NBC ??
Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 12:22 AM by kentuck
So the CIA guy/gal is hung out to dry because he/she leaked the story that we had our own little torture camps in Europe, Poland to be more exact, and perhaps others we have not heard about yet? So "they" trace several of his/her calls to Dana Priest at the Washington Post. But she says she got the info from NBC?

Although this topic has not had a lot of time here on DU today, you can bet that lips were flapping in and around the newsrooms in Washington today. This should just about complete the intimidation process for this Administration against the news media of this country. When will they learn not to speak ill of this Administration? When will they learn not to report embarrassing or inhumane stories about Bush and his war on terror? Don't they know that everything now is a threat to our "national security"?

2. Dana Priest is probably one of the last real journalists left....
Guess they are going to go after her! If she got it from NBC then she's in the clear! Good! Otherwise, they may try to sully her. She did get a Pulitzer for that one!

4. When will this admin recognize it's not good to miss of the media!
We ahven't seen a lot of it yet, but we have seen some movement toward eliminating the "Shrub protectionism" lately, and if they keep fighting the Press, you're going to see MORE!

The Press can make or break any candidate or administration!

Keep pushing your luck guys, and as your numbers go down, the press will get stronger against you!

5. The CIA agent is a WOMAN. They gave her name on the news,
which I can't remember and showed her picture.

CIA Fires Employee for Alleged Leak
By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer

President Bush arrives with CIA Director Porter Goss, left, ...
WASHINGTON - In a highly unusual move, the CIA has fired an employee for leaking classified information to the news media, including details about secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe that resulted in a Pulitzer Prize-winning story, officials said Friday.

The Associated Press has learned the officer was a CIA veteran nearing retirement, Mary McCarthy. Reached Friday evening at home, her husband would not confirm her firing.

In McCarthy's final position at the CIA, she was assigned to its Office of Inspector General, looking into allegations the CIA was involved in torture at Iraqi prisons, according to a former colleague who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is under investigation.

Without identifying McCarthy by name, CIA Director Porter Goss announced the firing in a short message to agency employees circulated Thursday. Such firings are rare. And it is the first time since Goss took over in September 2004, vowing to clamp down on leaks, that he has dismissed an intelligence officer for speaking with reporters.

7. Her name is Mary McCarthy.
There's another thread on GD with more information, and also suggesting we take up a collection for flowers and/or legal fees for Ms. McCarthy.
