in the general radius of 25 miles around my house there is no gas
except one small Jr. Market. All the rest of the stations have little bags over the handles and my friend said he heard that the summer fuel just hasn't come in yet?
Is this happening anywhere else?

1. Yikes. Are you way out in the boonies? I just came back from
Tulsa and didn't see any signs of that. Frightening prices but no bags that I noticed...

6. Nope, there seems to be gas here, regular is about $2.90
in the countryside. We usually get the "changing over the mix" between now and May 1st. Mid-May that will become the mantra for higher prices.

7. Summer fuel? I'm no expert but I think fuel delieveries
come once a week or more. If anything is missing it's not "summer fuel". Haven't seen any problems here (Colorado) except for stupid high prices...

10. In some states, the gas mixture changes seasonally
In California, we have to use a different mix of fuel during the summer (to combat smog), which means gas prices go up temporarily during the switchover periods every year. (It costs the station owners to convert from using one fuel mix to another, or so I've been told.) If the new mixture hasn't arrived, then maybe some stations could be temporarily out of gas.

9. I see it occasionally for the cheaper grades of gas. I'll be damned
if I'm going to tank up with that premium high octane stuff that is 25 cents a gallon more. My goal is to not let the tank go below half full this summer. But yes, sometimes, at different stations, I see the bags and only the expensive stuff is available.

11. Preemptive threat perhaps.
Don't like the price, well, how about if there's none at all, how do you like that? j/k :P

13. Hey, rainy. I read your post when you first put it up, but
Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 05:01 PM by Cyrano
couldn't reply at the time. When I got home, I looked for it, missed it, and started another thread about how this "shortage" is just the beginning of part II of the oil companyies scam.

Create a phony shortage, people panic and top off every day. Pretty soon, we're begging to pay four dollars a gallon just so long as they make it available.

How long will it be before gas costs as much as a pina colada? I guess when that happens, we'll all have the choice between going to work, or staying home and getting soused for the same price.

Anyhow, I would have put that other posting here had I been able to find it.
