What if,...all those promises,...were broken?
If you just respect your elders, you'll gain wisdom.

If you make good grades, you'll get into college.

For every moment you give unto others, it'll come back ten-fold.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

If you graduate college, you'll be able to get off a bus, anywhere in America, and get a good job.

Hard work will always produce healthy gains.

Early to sleep, early to rise makes men healthy, wealthy and wise.

Failure to stand against tyranny will,...

What was the "promise land"?

Help me experiment with all these promises AND replace them with something more meaningful, more cogent, more REAL.

Thank you  in advance.

1. These are not promises, they are lies told to help you to cope
If you hold your tongue and listen, you may gain wisdom.

If you pay attention and learn in school, you may understand your world better.

For every moment you give to others, your heart gets a moment's joy.

A penny saved, adds up and gets very heavy to carry.

If you graduate college, you'll know more stuff. Now pray you can pay the loan off.

Hard work will usually produce an aching back.

Early to sleep, early to rise, makes for a long day and no nightlife

Failure to stand against tyranny will enslave you and your children.

The promised land is that imaginary place that we know men will evolve to live in some day, where peace and plenty are the norm

Best I could do

2. I love a challenge, so here's my list...
If you just respect your elders, you'll gain wisdom, and be labeled as supporting entitlement programs for the elderly.

If you make good grades, you'll get into college, but if you can't, get mom and dad to sue the college and you'll still get in.

For every moment you give unto others, it'll come back ten-fold, in derisive comments from your friends and associates.

A penny saved is a penny earned, and a penny discarded ends up in my pocket.

If you graduate college, you'll be able to get off a bus, anywhere in America, and get a good job designing and assembling hamburgers.

Hard work will always produce healthy gains, for the bullshit capitalists who own the means of production.

Early to sleep, early to rise makes men healthy, wealthy and wise. Well, healthy perhaps, but wise only comes after one realizes that the wealthy part applies only to those in power positions. It should really be more like: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, makes someone else wealthy, and grants wisdom to us when we realize that we are being screwed.

Failure to stand against tyranny will, continue until such time as we are all inconvenienced materially, then all hell will break loose!

What was the "promise land"? A myth invented by the oligarchs to keep the common people working to create more wealth for the privileged.

3. Here's two:
A penny saved is a penny of disposable income. Better save fifty million of them, at least.

Early to sleep, early to rise, makes night owls sleep deprived.

4. I have no idea what the "promise land" is....
But I vaguely recall somebody - I think he was famous or something - said something kinda similar a few times... People said it made kinda a big splash... I dunno...
