You can now post to your Journal directly
Edited on Mon Apr-10-06 07:07 PM by Elad
If you have a Journal and it is turned on, you should see a new checkbox in the post form which allows you to add your post directly to your Journal as you post it.

We have also added a "Post to your Journal" link to everyone's Journal, which you can find at the top of the right column when viewing your journal. This link will ask you to pick a forum and will then also automatically add the post to your journal. Please note that this functionality also adds your post to the discussion forum in the forum that you choose.

5. I have a question, Elad
I've seen Journals with photos, but when I have a photo in the discussion post and click add to my journal, the image does not appear on the Journal entry, same with links. What am I doing wrong?

God, all these new stuff is terrific. Thank you so much. :)

6. Um, is is possible to post *only* to the journal yet?
The post form seems to insist that I choose a forum to which an entry will also post. If I read your announcment correctly, that's all the functionality you've just created...?

7. The problem with that idea is that it would prevent anyone from
commenting on your post. We debated this for awhile, and got some feedback from the members, and decided that at least for now, we're not going to provide such functionality. We don't see any reason why just about any topic can't be posted to the discussion board (especially since we have so many different forums now), since basically the discussion board just acts as the medium for people to comment, just like you would on a traditional blog.

8. I assume (hope) that DU Rules apply every bit as much for such entries?
In assuming that, I also assume that the removal of such posts behaves in the same way?

9. The only problem is that in fast-moving forums,
Edited on Mon Apr-10-06 06:26 PM by SoCalDem
topics get locked so fast, people might want to comment, but if they don't see it right away, it's locked before they get a chance.. I think that's the rub that most people have with the "post"
feature.

It's no biggie to me, but I think that's the feature people seem to want ..Is there any way to override the lock for "journaled" posts only ?

11. That is a downside
However, there are plenty of topic forums that move much slower and cover just about every conceivable topic. You don't have to post in GD if you want the thread to remain open for a long time.

13. That is an advantage a traditional blog will retain, then...
...over the current system.

What we have is still super-cool.

22. True, but what if I wanted to post to the journal like a blog, perhaps
to log somewhere, officially, my thoughts on a certain subject.

For example, my comments and views on the Duke rape case...

I'd like it archived somewhere on DU (in my journal) but don't want to waste space in the forums by creating a new thread...

Seems so self-absorbed to create a thread just for a journal post.

Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of DU Journals.

I dunno, I just think it would be cool if DUers could have a journal that functions more like a blog, the advantage being that they are all centrally located on DU.

Might make the experience more personal, and help posters get to know each other better...

16. I love the new journals and how they work. I just wish I could post on my
journal other things then what I posted just on DU. Is that possible?

Also, if you guys stay up all night, you are paid pretty well from this site. I mean everyone could always use more income, but this is your jobs now . . . am I wrong? The reason I say that is, I read sometime over on FR that the guy that runs that pays like $200 thousand a year just to run the site (unreal amount of money), so either he is rich from something else and burns his money on FR, or things have worked out really well for him with FR. Kudos to entrepreneurship!:toast:
