Did you catch the fundie bigots in Rosie's HBO documentary?
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 12:50 AM by BattyDem
I watched "All Aboard! Rosie's Family Cruise" on HBO tonight. It was a documentary about her gay family/gay friendly cruise.

It was very interesting and it was so nice to see all the families enjoying themselves without having to worry about being harrassed by hatemongers ... until the ship docked in the Bahamas, where it was greeted by two church groups who were loudly protesting. They didn't care that the children of the gay couples were scared. They were nasty and angry. I bet these groups had something to do with getting BBM banned. :eyes:

Many residents did say that they disagreed with the hate groups and they had no problem with the gay families. It's a shame that the nastiest people always seem have the loudest voices. :-(

Anyway, it repeats on HBO Family at 3:45am (EDT), so fire up the Tivo if you're interested. It also repeats on HBO throughout the month.

If you know anyone who is against gay marriage or gay adoption, try to get them to watch this. (I don't mean die-hard fundies - nothing will ever open their eyes - I mean rational, but misguided, people.) There is so much love in these families. I don't see how any kind-hearted, rational person can watch it and still say that gay families are "dangerous" to society or to children. :-)

On edit: Just to be clear ... the "Rosie" I mentioned is Rosie O'Donnell. :-)

3. Oops, sorry. I've seen it abbreviated so many times on DU ...
so I figured everyone would know what it meant.

BBM = Brokeback Mountain

:-)

5. That would explain the Arizona State Senator's son's lenient sentence
he was just training the pre-teens and teens he molested to be "fine upstanding Christians" . . . with the stick up their butt . . .

7. I did tivo this, and I urge others to watch this great documentary!
What a wonderful way to show people how we really are all just the same. (Well, except for the hate mongers...) Don't all parents want to raise their kids in a safe, peaceful environment?

For those who missed it, it's showing all month on HBO, just check their website for the schedule.

8. There was an inordinate number of religious leaders protesting.
I am really troubled by anyone that invokes God in the name of hatred and bigotry. One cannot claim to be a Christian and then behave in a manner that is not christlike. I am overwhelmed by the attempt to impose an unconstitutional theocracy in America.

I would love to see the real Christians of America that understand the real message of JC stand up and denounce the envoys of hate for the frauds that they are. Those soaking in corruption hide behind the skirts of religion, and their sheep following rubber-stamp every crime committed by them.

It would help the Democrats, hell, it would help America, if the voice of genuine Christians was heard above the din.

Matthew 5: 3-12

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall possess the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

9. After I posted here, I went to the website for that cruise company...
... and read the most heartwarming post from a straight woman. I've left out her name, but it does show that there are some 'true' Christians left in the world, something I was beginning to doubt.

"Straight Friend here....just saw the HBO Documentary and cried through it all...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cried when I saw gay and lesbian families free to express their love openly without judgement.

I cried when I saw five adopted children say a blessing during their fathers' holy union ceremony.

I cried when I saw the welcoming way the city of Key West opened its arms to the passengers.

I cried when I saw the protesting in Nassau and seeing children upset because they don't understand why people are shouting at them.

I cried when I, a follower of Christ, witnessed other "Christians" spewing hate and not love to the passengers.

I cried when I saw beautiful teenage childrend raised by gay parents praise them and thank them for all the love they have shown them.

To all of you wonderfully courageous gay families out there--may God continue to bless and strengthen your families and relationships. It is my prayer that one day very soon that equality in marriage will be available for ALL.

Thanks for reading this long rambling post. I was so moved I just had to write!"
