A Modest Proposal:
We should only allow into America immigrants who have good recipes from their homeland.

5. I say we up the ante, too:
All immigrants, and US citizens, must undergo dental examinations. Those not up to par get deported. That way we get rid of the British and the hicks, and make our nation all the more herky!

And open a delicious restaurant.

What would I do without the Chinese immigrants who came to my little rural town and made it possible for me to eat crab rangoon and Szechuan chicken without having to drive 30 miles??

15. That's what I'm talkin' about
The Planada taco cart's $3.00 burritos, which are not only HUGE, they're the best burritos you ever had in your life.

I'd drive 50 miles out of my way for the Planada taco cart.

21. My grand-aunt was a cook in the King's kitchens as a girl
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 12:35 AM by TahitiNut
... before she married my grand-uncle and emigrated to the US. The. Best. Cook. I've. Ever. Known. Smorgasbords at their house were awesome! I'd stay with them (in the country) for a few weeks every summer and ate like a little prince. She made 'Swedish' pancakes (like crepes) to die for and always had the best preserves and jams for them. My favorite was rullepolse - a pressed meat (lamb and veal) that was terrific - loosely similar to a French terrine but even coarser and made in a linen sack instead of a earthevware dish. The butter cookies were fab great. Various flatbrot, meat balls, vegetable concoctions - all terrific. Her coffeecakes were rich and light and wonderful.

Then there's lutefisk. Uffda!
