"Slow Food, USA." Any DU members?

"Slow Food, USA." Any DU members?
I am intrigued by the concept. Is membership worth the $60 annual fee? A local convivia is listed for my area, but it has no activity associated with it. Slow Food Asheville, an hour away, seems to be more active. Anybody out there with any experiences (good/bad/otherwise) with Slow Food?

I am also interested in how the Slow Food organization might, some how, benefit the homeless. The fourth point of Slow Food's "Our Values" seems to get close to that:

Inclusiveness

*following democratic principles in a spirit of sharing and service
*educating members and others about Slow Food's mission
*dedicating ourselves to local cooperation and global collaboration

with good food and a relaxing atmosphere?

Cheap at $60 bucks and very good for the digestion.

3. It's worth it -
And a lot of fun.

We're members in Philadelphia. Just had a 'Nose to Tail' dinner at a local restaurant.

Monkfish liver app.

Foie gras & oxtail terrine.

Crispy pigs feet with three mustards

Veal & lamb brochette with lentils vinagarette (hearts and kidneys)

Calves brains with capers and brown butter.

Panna cotta with kirsch soaked cherries.

It was at a local BYO and there were some amazing wines poured.

Enjoy Slow Food

6. I got sick just reading the menu
I wouldn't be able to get out of there fast enough! But the concept sounds interesting.

8. Try looking at Fergus Hendersons'
site for his St. John Restaurant.

He's the guy who wrote "The Whole Beast - Nose to Tail Eating".

If you're going to eat meat you should have all the parts.

The bone marrow & parsley salad is wonderful.
