We are but one surface of the right wing echo chamber.
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 01:30 PM by 5X
An echo needs more than one surface to bounce off of.
When DU allows right wing talking points,

< Job stealing, flag wavers.
< Environmental-evolutionsists want to kill us all.
< McKinney shouldn't have slapped the nice policeman.

such as these to shape our debate,
we provide one of the surfaces and in fact amplification for
the views of others to gain steam and keep rolling.

edit for clarity on my point.

1. Actually those are your opinions
Just because I dont agree with everyone or everything on DU doesnt make me part of the right wing echo chamber.

7. No, the point your trying to make IS your opinion
Sorry, I guess I should have quoted.

"An echo needs more than one surface to bounce off of.
When DU allows right wing talking points,

<snip>

we provide one of the surfaces and in fact amplification for
the the views of others to gain steam and keep rolling."

So, in other words, if I don't agree with the "generally acceptable DU groupthink", I should keep my right wing echo chamber mouth shut?

5. Are you suggesting
that DU should be ideologically pure? There are definitely comments on those subjects that I don't agree with, and even a very few that do seem to come from a right wing viewpoint, but there's room for disagreement on touchy subjects. Did you read Skinner's post on immigration? Regarding Cynthia McKinney, some of us want to wait until we have more information before we make a judgement about who, if anyone, was at fault.

9. I'm saying too often the direction of the debate..
is decided by, as mentioned above, even if it was about me,
outsiders building the walls. Shaping the debate from
outside forces.

15. That was simply word salad
signifying nothing. You didn't answer my questions in any kind of coherent manner.

17. to answer your questions, then:
No, I am not saying DU should be pure of thought.
I am saying when we waste so much time replying to
right wing talking points we are doing nothing but
giving them strength.

I did read Skinners post on immigration, and I disagreed with
much of it.
I would have to go back and find it to address exactly what.

On McKinney, I haven't really formed an opinion either, but
there are opinions out there that a lot of time is being wasted
on.

19. I just found Skinner's post on the immigration discussion,
not much to disagree with there, must have seen
a different one earlier or by someone else.
His was thoughtful and well done.

seems that too many game balls thrown this way are taken and run with to the opponents goal.

8. I agree on the first two, but...
I really do believe that McKinney was out of line. This doesn't mean that the officer was completely innocent, but she certainly shouldn't have assaulted him.

That's a no brainer to me.

12. Just because someone disagrees w/ you ...
... doesn't mean they're 'spouting right wing talking points'.

That is the most simplistic, trite, cop-out I've heard in my 5 years here - instead of trying to understand where the other person is - and indeed, maybe where you yourself are - coming from; point a finger, jump up and down and scream "RW Talking Points Freeper Troll Attack!!"

Give me a break. :eyes:

20. not 'spouting rw points'...
they just rely on human knee jerk reactions on certain hot topic issues they decide to throw at us and have us scrap at each other instead of the rotting system.

22. My two cents....
probably not worth much more than that, but...

When I came here I was under the impression that it was a forum for the free exchange of ideas between those sympathizing with Democratic and/or Progessive philosophies. Since this encompasses a wide spectrum of people, it's impossible for everyone to be on the same page with every single issue. I think that is what makes this forum interesting.

I do think that there is a certain level of sanctimonious thought policing going on, and I for one find it very annoying. It's one thing to debate someone on their ideas, it's another thing to question someone's statements just because you don't feel it doesn't fit into the little box that you think Democrats and or liberals should fit in.

P.S. I don't think Cynthia McKinney should have slapped the policeman either.

:toast:
