immigration smoke screen
here they go again...all the problems going on with iraq, the deficit, katrina aftermath, wire tapping etc etc and what is everybody talking about? Immigration?

They did this with gay marriage b4 the 2004 elections and they are doing it again!

Its sad to see that even here on the DU all these arguments have broken out about it. Some of them quite nasty!

The republicans keep beating us because they are the ones leading us by the nose.

Immigration is a problem sure, but don't fall into their trap!

How long are we going to let these criminals dictate the discussion! We will never win if we let THEM set the agenda. We need to stick to our guns...someone in the democratic party needs to say, "I dont think we just spent 300 billion dollars on immigration"

or, "I dont think 2400 americans have died because of immigration!"

or, "I don't think immigration caused to levees to breach (or 'top' or whatever)"

ug...its so maddening!

6. It's not my top priority either and I've stayed out of it but DAMN
people doesn't it make you want to see our behinds out there? Mass demonstrations by AMERICANS with a dying country? THAT's what I'm thinking about. That's what it makes me think about. Bring back the sixties. This apathetic shit has driven me mad. In the streets.

4. They are talking about it because the people are in the streets
That's why. This isn't a manufacuted event. Unless all of humanity is a plot by Karl Rove. I grow weary of this thinking. Actual HUMANS with something to lose. As I posted before our side has already lost-or doesn't give a shit. We aren't even visible.

8. no, they are talking about it because it is the republican agenda!
They have planned this since 1999. a group of corporations formed the "Essental Worker Immigration Coalition" to create the "guest worker program" Bush is sponsoring at this moment. That is the issue here. more greed.
read up everyone.
info at:
"How US corporations won the debate over immigration" Us Freepress november 2004.

"migrants no more" mother jones 11/11/04

interhemispheric resource center, IRC 2004

censored 2006, media democracu in action", seven stories press

If we don't get more informed, the right just takes for a ride. That is what is happening here, plain and simple.
This is the same strategy as worrying about "weapons of mass destruction' and the public is jumping right into it, hook line and sinker!

7. I agree
I posted a thread earlier as to one of the reasons they really don't plan on touching illegal immigration. This is all just to stir up people and then to be twisted around and flung back in the faces of Democrats running in 2006.

Here's my post from earlier if you'd like to take a peek.
