1. I bet some asshole flicked a cigarette out and it flew back..
.. and landed on another deck. When you board a Princess Cruise they go over this a million times - to not throw cigarettes out because the winds bring them back onboard and can cause a fire.

what a damn shame - for the loss of life and damages.

3. whenever I see a cruise ship
I think of about 3000-4000 people's worth of waste material floating out the back end of those things. Sort of a floating outhouse as far as I am concerned.

4. not modern ships.. they have sewage treatment centers onboard...
including water salination abilities etc.. at least the Princess ships do.

5. Forget not that after they dump their waste
in our waters and ultimately destroy our reefs, beaches, etc., they also fill up with the limited water resources from these small islands. So that while many of our poor have no water, the cruise liners fill up with our best water.

It's really a fugged up self-destructive and distorted approach to development from our leaders and their business interests - one more inversion of reality.
