To the Rich who Steal from the Poor & Working Class (& the Ever Disappearing Middle-Class,
Today, I watched a woman in line at the pharmacy. She had a Wal-mart vest on over her jersey. She was bent, and she could not speak clearly. Her hands shook as she pressed the buttons on the scanner to process her payment. The clerk gave her the total. 252.00, AFTER insurance. She stood frozen. She said to the clerk 'That is my entire weeks paycheck after taxes'. The clerk offered to divide her meds so that she could get two weeks now, and then come back and get the other two weeks. She stood shock still, contemplating what to do. Eventually, she had the clerk pour out half the meds in her bottle and payed. The clerk sighed as she walked away. She looked at me and said 'This job gets harder everyday'.
Last Night:
Grocery Shopping. 111.00 spent on a small order of groceries for a family of three. I commented to the check out woman on the prices, and she agreed that it is terrible. We got to chatting about the high cost of everything and how much it takes to merely survive. She works two jobs - one at the bank during the day and one at night at the grocery store. She is 67 years old. She works two jobs. She has no choice.
Two Sunday's ago: Driving to Sunday breakfast with my family. Fierce snow storm. Wind chills easily in the single digits to below zero. Picked up TWO people walking to work (no buses on Sunday, and the bus system in this rural area takes 1 - 2 hours to get from point A to point B when it is working. Dropped one of at Wal-Mart & one at the local Cumberland Farms. One lived three miles away. Both had cars from the 80s that just died. They did not have the money or credit to buy another one. They walk to work every day now. They work full time plus overtime.
I could give you a story for almost every day of the week, JUST like these.
These are nameless people who are the victims of your thieving and pillaging. The ones that you demonize as lazy and useless, so as not to have to take the responsiblity for the poverty and suffering that results from your leeching.
They are the elderly.
A majority of them are women and children.
They are the sick, the disabled, the ones that have fallen prey to unfortunate life events. Many are educated. Many are very hard-working (harder working then you could ever dream of being). Salt of the earth hard-working people who have more integrity in the tip of thier pinky nail then you have in your entire blue blooded, useless bodies).
The struggling masses. The down-sized. The true American people who make up the vast majority, but to you - just the bottom line and a cost benefit factor.
These are the faces of your victimes.
I thought you should know them, or at least know they exist.
You don't get to see them in your gated communities and limousines.
But, they are there.
In a just world, you would pay for your crimes. But, you won't. If any one of these people stole a measly pittance to help their struggling families, THEY would be jailed. They would have a felony added to their burden.
But, not you.
You are sanitized criminals.
But, you are criminals.
And, you have started a class war.
May you someday reap what you sow.
