Dell to Double Its Staff in India by 2009
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 06:30 AM by Jon8503
Looks like Dell is more or less moving its entire operation to India by the time it is complete.

ARTICLE:

NEW DELHI - Computer maker Dell Inc. plans to double the number of employees in India to 20,000 in three years, Chairman Michael Dell said Monday.

The Round Rock, Tex.-based company currently operates four call centers in India, a product testing center for corporate customers and a global software development center. Some 10,000 people work at these facilities.

"We will double our staff from the current level over the next three years," Dell told reporters during a visit to Bangalore, India's technology hub.

"There is a fantastic opportunity to attract talent (here)," he said. "We will ensure a major recruitment push in engineering talents."

Earlier this year, the company said it was also looking to set up a manufacturing center in India, a move that could help boost the sale of Dell computers in this Asian nation.

8. Michael was happy to screw us!
I feel I can call him that, I gave him six years of loyalty & his bs (he used to like to come around and talk "team". My group was the very first to be outsourced to India, since we pioneered a service which could be provided via the web. It was very strange how I collected not a penny from my hundreds of options & ended up with nothing , as did my compatriots but Mike has 24 Billion now and the buildings in Round Rock, once thriving, are a ghost town.

I type this on a trusty IBM R51 & say only a heart felt "fuck michael dell".

3. Maybe By 2009 They'll Move The Customer Service Jobs Here
With so many rich folks in India from all our outsourcing, maybe they'll have to start opening customer service centers here so poor little American workers can answer questions for boorish Hindus.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Dell if it were the last computer on the market (I buy Blue...Dell gives $$$$$ to Repugnicans) and if couldn't think of a finer market to screw up with such a defective, cheaply made and poorly serviced machines.

Next, do we get to see the Dell Dude playing a sitar and telling us to "chill...you've got a Dell?"

Now aren't they gonna have to do something about those cow boxes, too?

9. FYI "Cow Boxes" B-) Gateway donates 81% to Dems & CS is in the US. They do
outsourcing as of "September 03, 2003 Gateway Inc. will outsource a number of PC assembly and manufacturing jobs as part of its continued effort to slash costs." (Source Here All I can findis that they've outsourced to other plants they have. I can't find anywhere that says where they have outsourced to other countries let alone China and would appreciate a link to the info. B-)

I am on my 2nd Gateway computer and one of the reasons I bought my last one, along with being extremely pleased with my previous experiences with them, is that they are mostly "blue" and at least their (excellent) customer service and tech help seems to still be in the US from those I've spoken with. (My husband has found the same to be true with his eMachine as well.)

(An aside) More "FYI" then you may care about: ;)
"Blue" info from Buy Blue. (I'm glad I went looking, I found out that Gateway now has a female BOD member (
Anyway, folks can write or call Gateway [link:
http://www.gateway.com/about/contactus/index.shtml">here or http://www.gateway.com/about/news_info/locations.shtml\">here if they want to comment or question. If it is a concern for you call them with concerns about any future outsourcing they may consider. Tell them you'll be buying a new computer soon and will only buy from "Blue" and US based companies with their CS and tech help here in the US. IMO the best time to nip it is before it goes full tilt like Dell has.

4. Don't buy Dell.
Then they'll have to lower their prices in order to be able to sell to their product to their employees in India or wherever.

10. I guess it is to be expected, I added a gig of memory in my dell a couple
weeks ago and when I took the cover off I seen everything in it is made in china. My first computer in '89 was mostly american made best I can remember.
