Because it PROVES that Democrats think for themselves. The Deomcratic party is the party of Individualism and Diversity.

For 12 years we had a party in power in Congress that marched in lockstep, and look where that's gotten us.

It's time that Americans once again elect representatives that think for themselves and vote their conscience - not how the Party tells them to vote.

"Democrats have trouble agreeing on anything" - DAMN STRAIGHT! That's why we are Democrats, so we can have our own opinion and not the Party Line. Democrats are for Freedom of Thought and Freedom of Opinion. That's what distinguishes us from Republicans.

I agree, we need not always agree. The best answers always come from the discussion but NOT with the Republicans, at least not now.

While their ideas have been consistently destructive, they hold all the power, with the media's help, with no one to speak out for what's right...until election time, when the sh*t has reached shoulder level.

I'm proud, too, johnaries, that our party has personalized views that can provide constructive debate in solving problems.

7. The problem is that our diversity is a liability in elections.

We live in an age where voters want answers to problems delivered with confidence. The Repugs can always deliver those, and no matter how idiotic and wrong, they ALL support them. The public assumes there must be something to the Repugs points because the corporate media doesn't challenge them. Worse yet the Repugs can always dredge up a few "Democrats" who agree with them. That reinforces the public view even more.

It also means we can never articulate a coherent set of answers to the problems at hand. We are all over the map. People know there are problems and they want solutions. So who do they trust to provide solutions: the guys who are unified and oh so sure of themselves, or the side with more positions than a contortionist?

We get labeled "flip-floppers" and it sticks--because sadly it is earned.

I agree it is great that we have a diversity of viewpoints, but for any organization to succeed a method has to exist for unity on core issues. Even if some members don't always agree, they need to support the party. There needs to be a method to reach consensus and then all members sticking to the consensus. And the arguments among Dems need to be less public.

We will remain a minority party until we can find a way to accomplish party discipline--after INTERNAL party debate. We might get a brief respite due to the total failure of the Repugs of late, but it will be short lived. We need unity on key legistlative priorities and public policies.
