Coulter on AIDS: H'wood caught with pants down; got it in the end
In her March 8 nationally syndicated column, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter took issue with actor George Clooney's remark that those in the film industry "talked about AIDS when it was just being whispered." Coulter wrote that Hollywood actually "got caught with its pants down" on the issue of AIDS and "got it right in the end." Coulter then noted that she should "hire two more interns to screen hate mail."

From Coulter's March 8 column, "It's hard out here for a wimp":

George Clooney made the only stand for liberal Hollywood, smugly declaring:

"We are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while. I think it's probably a good thing. We're the ones who talked about AIDS when it was just being whispered, and we talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular. ... (T)his group of people gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939 when blacks were still sitting in the backs of theaters. I'm proud ... to be part of this community, and proud to be out of touch."

Forget about Hollywood being ahead of the big issues: Hollywood has never even been on time for the big issues. This is why, for example, in the middle of an epic war with Islamic fascists, Hollywood is still making movies about the Nazis. Now and then, just for variety, they tackle a more current topic, like the Jim Crow era.

Even on AIDS -- which is something you'd expect people like Clooney to know something about -- Hollywood was about seven years behind. Wait, no -- bad choice of words. Even on AIDS, Hollywood got caught with its pants down. Still no good. On AIDS, Hollywood got it right in the end. Oh, dear ... Note to self: Must hire two more interns to screen hate mail.

2. I seem to recall the entertainment industry leading the charge
for more AIDS funding and awareness. Left to Reagan, that money would have ended up on the tip of a missle in the Dakotas.

Where does she think the idea for those absurd little yellow "support the troops" ribbons came from? First time I remember anything of the sort, it was red AIDS ribbons worn on the lapels of actors, musicians, and artists.

What hate-filled spew.

5. As an HIV/AIDS Health Educator, I would love to invite
Ms. Coulter to attend a week of workshops with me around New York City. It could be an eye opening experience for her, since she clearly lacks any clue which communities this pandemic is actually destroying. What's sad about her comments, which clearly are being said out of a desperate need for attention, is that she doesn't even grasp the concept that 40 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS and if it wasn't for the artistic communities in NYC and LA in the early '80s, would be still be just as deaf now as were then?

I wonder how Ms. Coulter feels about Roy Cohen?

6. My dear JackBeck...
You are operating under the delusion that Ann Coulter feels. (Once you get past that, she's easier to understand... and look over.)

9. I'm well aware that she's sold her soul a long time ago to the Darkside.
I'm just curious whether or not Roy Cohen could be listed among her American Idols. The irony would be oh, so bitter sweet.

You are not funny. You are not clever. You are not intelligent. Now go away.

ETA: The only good thing is knowing she gets so much hate mail.
