Peace activist Cindy Sheehan arrested in NY protest
Peace activist Sheehan arrested in NY protest 17 minutes ago

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war activist whose son was killed in the Iraq war, was arrested with three other protesters in New York on Monday after a rally with women from Iraq.

Sheehan became a central figure in the U.S. anti-war movement last summer after she camped outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch and has been arrested at least two other times at protests.

On Monday, she had joined a delegation of women from Iraq at the rally at the United Nations, urging the United Nations to help prevent civil war in Iraq.

About 20 protesters went to the U.S. mission to the United Nations to deliver a petition with 60,000 signatures seeking an end to the war. Nobody from the mission received them so Sheehan and three other American women sat down in front of the building, refused to leave, and were arrested.

3. Oh well, she's "too liberal" to run for office and said naughty
things about Hillary. We need to "distance ourselves" from her lest Rush Limbaugh says we aren't patriotic.

politically impotent and historically irrelevant unless we can convince Rush that we make
just as much sense as he does. I know this because Rush told me himself. He's giving me
a lot of helpful hints about building an effective opposition. ;) Remember "changing the
system from within"? It's like that.

Gee, I wonder what happened to all those folks who were going to change the system from
within? I haven't seen or heard of any of them in about thirty years.

8. You can't obstruct traffic
I've demonstrated several times in Daj Hammarskjold Plaza - but Votermarch had a proper permit and we scrupulously followed the terms.

10. Where does it say she was obstructing traffic? All it says is:
{b)Sheehan and three other American women sat down in front of the building

12. Yup and you can't just sit in front of buildings obstructing
pedestrian traffic. This is NYC and we have rules for demonstrations. They may be overturned one day, but right now, if a police officer orders you to move on and you refuse to comply, you will be taken into custody and charged. But I think that's what she wanted.
