5. I trusted you at once, That's why I asked for information.
I'm not sceptical. I think he was killed and I'd like to know what you mean concerning his funeral or whatever. Maybe it's a language thing, I'm German. I simply would like to know what I don't know so far :)

8. The Wellstone memorial was a wonderful communion
of friends and family and a throngs of supporters. The right wing of this country tried to paint it as a hateful partisan affair. There were lies upon lies spread by the right wing...people who didn't even watch the event. Al Franken in "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" debunks the disgusting smears the right wing launched. The memorial was absolutely beautiful, especially for those of us who lost our beloved Senator a week before the election.

12. The right wing was so successful in their attack on the memorial
that Wellstone's challenger, :puke: Norm Coleman :puke: actually took Wellstone's Senate seat. It was such a stab in the heart to all of us who not only lost our Senator, his family and friends, but worked so hard on his campaign.

14. I thought it was Coleman who replace Wellstone
but wasn't sure. Such a pitifully replacement though, ugh. Double:puke:!!!!

So hypocritical how they attacked the memorial and now they're all bitching over Coretta Scott King's funeral. I'll have to check out Al Franken's book.

17. Mondale did run against Coleman, but the momentum
of hate generated by the RW was hard to combat. They even tried to make it seem that Mondale was "too old" to run and that Coleman was this vigorous, youthful chap who had the ear of the president. The whole thing was ghastly. Mondale did a wonderful job considering that he had 4 days to campaign.

22. We use optical scan counters, so at least we have a paper ballot.
The problem was that all of the Wellstone absentee ballots were thrown out. SInce Wellstone died a week before the election, those that voted absentee did not have time to "vote again". They did not "count" for Mondale. This, I believe, really tipped the scales in Coleman's favor.

http://www.startribune.com/1752/story/51084.html
The potential for a meltdown in the courts looms because of the decision to throw out absentee ballots containing a vote for Wellstone. Although the Minnesota Supreme Court ordered counties to mail out new absentee ballots to any absentee voter who wanted one, if Coleman's victory margin is smaller than the number of discarded Wellstone votes, a lawsuit appears to be a virtual certainty.

18. He was a wonderful man.

He, during an election year, courageously voted no for war in Iraq. The moment he did that, his approval ratings shot up because Minnesotans respect principle rather than hyperbole. While the race itself was very close, his Iraq War Resolution vote would have returned his Senate seat back to him. The man, while he has alive had to deal with the most disgusting attack ads, one which equated him with communism. One ad had still photo of smiling while him holding a champaign flute. A billowing hammer and sickle flag could be seen behind him. It was disgusting.

Paul & Shelia Wellstone were truly wonderful and principled human beings. The world lost champions of social justice, equality and peace that snowy day in October.

24. *smiles* Thank you for remembering him!
He got four shots of Lord-knows-what. Every day he drinks chamomile tea - and he's lots better! He eats his softened food and even - though with difficulty - some hay, even had a valiant try at some carrots! So that makes me very, very glad, because it means he will live.

Unfortunately he has to have major dentalwork done - two teeth extracted, work on all the other teeth. That is not easy on the horse, very expensive, very difficult (since the horse dentist wants electricity which we don't have, we'll have to rent a generator; but then that particular specialist seldom shows up the day he has us scheduled for. Also we have an open stable without electricity and it's bad winter weather here) and terrible for my nerves, because I cannot stand to see a thoroughly tranquilized horse, I'm always afraid they'll break their legs... And the horse is not mine, belongs to my SO who comnes from a farm. Farmers have problems with putting money into "useless" animals *sigh* But It will get done, if later that I wish for.

I said much too much, didn't I? I love them so, that's why :)

4. Technical correction
It wasn't his funeral. That was held at a Minneapolis synagogue the day before. He's buried in a cemetery just a few blocks from where I live.

The occasion that the Republicanites loved to hate was a public memorial service for him, his wife and daughter, and the three campaign workers who also died in the crash.
