VA Lawmaker Proposes Castration For Sex Offenders

There are thousands of registered sex offenders in the state of Virginia, 43 alone in the two Eastern Shore counties. Now, the most violent ones could be able to ask for a surgical form of treatment.

This is ridiculous. Men who are castrated after maturity can regain sexual function. They can still molest people. You never hear of proposed clitoridectimies for female sex-offeners...

2. The analog for women would be ovary removal, not clitoridectomy.

If castration is indeed optional, I don't have a problem with it. Let people do what they want to their own bodies.

If it's "get chopped or stay in jail forever," then it's not optional.

And I have no idea whether it would be effective or not, considering a lot of molestation doesn't really depend on the ability to get an erection. Sure, the sexual "thrill" would be reduced/gone, but that isn't always the point either.

3. Cruel and unusual punishment--not that the Inquisition Supreme Court would

stop it. Yes, sex-offenders are terrible. But killing 30,000 people in Iraq because we're too stupid to tell when we're being lied to demonstrates that Americans should error on the side of caution because Americans are idiots.

tho i am for it if the person convicted WANTS to have it done because he/she thinks its necessary to stop themselves.
