The silliness to which the repubs are stooping in their emails.
Edited on Sun Jan-21-07 09:10 AM by BleedingHeartPatriot
One of the doctors I work with is a Republican who has been rethinking, but not completely abandoning, the current administration's policies. He's actually very good natured in our exchanges, and showed me this email as a laugh. I asked him to send it to me and I'd give him a Democratic response to send out.

Myth...or coverup?

Many will recall that on July 8, 1947, witnesses claimed that

an unidentified object with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep

and cattle ranch outside Roswell, New Mexico.

This is a well-known incident that many say has long been

covered up by the U.S. Air Force and the federal government.

However, you may NOT know that in the month of March 1948,

exactly nine months after that historic day, Albert Arnold Gore, Jr.,

Hillary Rodham Clinton, John F. Kerry, William Jefferson Clinton,

Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Charles E. Schumer,

and Barbara Boxer were born.

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep?

This piece of information may clear up a lot of things.

This was pathetically easy to refute.

I decided to verify the data upon which the hypothesis is advanced.

My findings...

Nancy Pelosi, March 26, 1940
Bill Clinton, August 19, 1946
John Kerry, December 11, 1943
Howard Dean, November 17, 1948
Barbara Boxer, November 11, 1940
Hillary Clinton, October 26, 1947
Diane Feinstein, June 22, 1933
Charles Schumer, November 23, 1950

Oh wait, there is only one more name and his birth date actually (but just barely) meets that time line:

Al Gore, March 31, 1948...So, the one politician who deeply cares about our planet came from outer space. I suppose that's not so far fetched.

Another shining example of why the phrase "Republican facts" is an oxymoron!

Maybe this is an example of conservative satire. :eyes:

1. That is a good response about Al Gore being the only one
who truely cares about the planet and coming from outer space as not being far fetched. Did you see Contact?

And I thought it was a good response except for that.
As much as I respect and admire VP Gore, he's certainly not the only one on that list who cares about the planet.

7. I know, I struggled with that, but figured that even the most backward, ignorant repubs
would know his stance on global warming and the environment.

12. Good point.
I agree. It wouldn't have helped to try reasoning with them on the environmental records of others, and probably would have confused the issue.

But it is a good opportunity for me to post a bit about Sen Kerry's record here, so thanks for that. :-)

Environmental Record:
Kerry's environmental record is excellent. In 1970, he worked to organize Massachusetts' first Earth Day. As Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts he was active in efforts to curb the threat of acid rain to the Northeast. Senator Kerry served as official U.S. delegate to the Earth Summit in 1992, the Kyoto climate talks in 1997 and the Hague climate talks in 2000. He advocated for the U.S. to take the lead in the international effort to cut global warming pollution, reverse ozone depletion, protect tropical forests, preserve biological diversity and press for sustainable development around the world.

16. I love Kerry's work , but the reason his response is so perfect is
not so much that there are not other wonderful choices who care about the planet, but because Gore had the date of birth the Republican had indicated were from mating with sheep.

If not then what's to stop you saying something like...

"Dolly the sheep was cloned on January 20th 2001 - the same day George W Bush was inaugurated. Coincidence? I think not".

3. Please, do not point out "facts." The Republics have a severe
allergic to "facts." You wouldn't want them to go into anaphylactic shock, would you?

10. The problem is...
that these emails have been so prevalent the last decade that many have taken on a grain of truth to them because nobody has bothered to rebut them... then, they keep getting wider audiences and wider and wider.

6. I've seen this before, but not with visuals of the parallels. Thanks, bookmarked.
BTW, this doctor is a pediatrician, and a very good one, at that. He's always been on the fence, and in fact really likes Obama and says he would vote for him for president.

However, he hates to admit he was wrong about gwb. Must be some kind of repub hard wiring of the brain, or something, I guess. MKJ

9. You just pinpointed the problem!
"However, he hates to admit he was wrong about gwb."

That's it exactly! This 35% who consistently appear to support everything the Twerp does without even hearing the question are really just supporting themselves and their own fragile egos. They don't want to be seen as having been wrong (ever, about anything, just like the Twerp) so they say that they support him. Notice that those of us who oppose Bush do so passionately and intensely, while those who support him do so in a wishy-washy, "I guess" sort of manner.

The 35% may even see themselves as strong, resolute heroes "going down with the ship", refusing to turn on the president as all thinking Americans long ago did.

11. We have a lot to overcome
I knew a doctor a few years back... basically said that he disagreed with almost everything Bush stood for, but that he couldn't stand trial lawyers like Edwards and all the frivolous lawsuits, so voted Bush.

I knew a few other guys that all disliked Bush and were gung-ho Kerry over the summer of 2004. However, when it came to election day, they ended up voting Bush as the lesser of 2 evils because the RW had so effectively demonized Kerry.

I'd suggest that we put a lot of sheep ranches out there and an intergalactic cafe/bar/pub and place road sign beacons out in space to invite more aliens to drop by and procreate with sheep... :hide:

20. You Actually Took The Time To Refute This. For Real?

I only get a kick out of that because it was so obvious that it just compiled the list for sake of comedic effect and punchline. But to see that you actually put effort into debunking it as if it were necessary, or as if they were seriously putting forth some new conspiracy of trying to convince everyone that those on that list were all born in the same month on the same year, all sorts of just cracked me up!

I always find it really silly when these lighthearted joking emails are taken with outrage and knee-jerk need to respond or debunk. It is just amazingly silly in my opinion.

Responding to silly ones of this nature with hard core facts as if the email was so serious in tone to begin with, does not help our cause whatsoever. It makes us look uptight and anal.

I do, however, see the need at times to debunk and provide facts to the more serious propaganda emails that may come that aren't jokes, but instead are serious misportrayals of reality that can in fact manipulate people. There is definitely a need to debunk some of them. But this is not one of them, and I found the debunking effort hilarious!

Exactly 9 months after July 8th is April 8th, not any time in March. That oughta make 'em sheepish.
