First off, I'm a small scale guy. I don't think nation-states should exist, let alone globalization. But read this, and then stop wondering why we're doing what we're doing. It'd say it's pretty much right there on the screen for all to read.

1. So "Disconnectedness Defines Danger"?
Seems like an odd principle for the author to hold. So why isn't the US working to reconnect these areas short of military conquest?

Iraq was disconnected primarily because of US sanctions and other isolating policies.

Columbia (#2) is disconnected because the leftists who felt that the 1970 election was stolen were disconnected and had no recourse through international bodies.

Iran is disconnected because the US sponsored an invasion in the early 1980s and has isolated them since.

These and other places on his list were pushed to the margins by exactly the kind of thinking the author engages in. Unless we can conquer, occupy, and rebuild all nineteen of the areas on the list, that reconnection will have to be done through diplomatic and economic means.
