Bush's Traveling Roadshow Speech Was Just Like Groundhog Day
Homeland Security Chief Brings State of the Union Road Show to Illinois Says DNC

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Democratic National Committee today released the following statement: http://www.democrats.org

Today, as part of the Bush Administration's desperate attempt to reverse the President's plummeting credibility, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff marked Groundhog Day with a speech in Chicago.

Instead of explaining why the Bush Administration has failed to make America more secure or better prepared to respond to natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, Secretary Chertoff simply rehashed the failed policies and empty rhetoric in President Bush’s speech.

"Just like Bill Murray was forced to re-live the same day in the movie Groundhog Day, Illinois voters today were forced to hear the same speech and the same misleading rhetoric," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Damien LaVera. "Instead of explaining this Administration’s homeland security failures, Secretary Chertoff delivered more of the same empty rhetoric and broken promises.

"Together, America can do better. While the Republicans in Washington have been too busy fostering the Republican culture of corruption to address the voters' priorities, Democrats are offering a real national security strategy that makes America stronger and more secure. It is time for Republicans to join Democrats in that effort, and in the fight for ethics reform that provides the American people the honest leadership they deserve, a jobs plan that keeps American jobs in America, and real health care reforms that benefit all Americans."
