U.S. Military prefers illegal aliens over gay Americans
Gays Can't Shoot Straight?
Sometimes you think you've seen it all, but then you read today's top story in the Boston Globe:

Military considers recruiting foreigners
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/12/26/military_considers_recruiting_foreigners/

I guess this means that gays and lesbians have now moved below illegal immigrants on the political totem pole of life. To think that the Pentagon is more willing to put non-Americans in the military than it's own citizens is absurd.

The Pentagon should propose removal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy before it starts recruiting non-Americans. No discussion ever goes on about how our troops are serving (with the allies decreasing daily but that's another story) alongside other nation's troops who allow gay and lesbian service people, and it hasn't been a problem.

<snip>

Alan Turing, the man who is believed to be the one who broke the Nazi Enigma Code and also the father of artificial intelligence. Oh, yeah, Alan Turing was gay. He ended up taking his own life after being persecuted as a security risk because he was gay.

1. "which could expose the Pentagon to criticism that it is essentially using mercenaries
to defend the country."

Defend the country? From what? All the Army is doing right now is patrolling streets and being shot at. I haven't seen the army perform any domestic security operations since (arguably and debatably) Afghanistan and post-9/11. Even this piece manages to confuse Iraq and US security in the same way as Condi's "fight them here or there" speech.

But mercenaries? You betcha that's already happened. That happened when the Army started recruiting street thug gang-bangers and those who couldn't pass the aptitude tests - witness embarrassing and shameful episodes like Haditha and Abu Ghraib. It's also happened in the form of private contractors, who advertise in magazines for people willing to fight on behalf of the US.

That should be a wakeup call as to exactly how unsupported this war actually is by the American people. No sign-ups = no support.

If I were gay, I'd feel pretty angry right now, to be told I was lower than a criminal, in not being allowed to serve. I'd also be waiting for the court case which might be the end of "Don't ask, don't tell". Going outside to hiring aliens should violate some facet of the Equal Protection clause and make it plainly obvious to a court that it's purposeful Jim Crow-era discrimination.
