Light a candle ***with update***
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 11:45 PM by whereismyparty
Until December 31st, Bristol - Myers is donating a dollar to AIDS research every time someone goes to their website and moves the match to the candle and lights it. It's free to you.
You can only do it once so please forward this link on.
https://www.lighttounite.org/

I was candle number 933,843. That's how many dollars have already been contributed. After forwarding it to loved ones in my address book, my mother-in -law replied that she was 936,371. That means 2,500 candles were lit within about 10 minutes. Pretty cool. Let's DU this thing! It only takes a second to do this. There are no gimmicks, no questionaires. Just light the candle, then pass it on to as many people as you can. You'll feel good about it.

Who will be 1,000,000?

***UPDATE*** It appears janeaustin is right. Although the counter is still working and the website gives no indication that the maximum number of donations has been met, they have in fact, capped the donations at 100,000. That means, that even on AIDS Day, the people clicking away at this good cause didn't really help financially. That's infuriating. They should let people know more openly that their contribution was capped.

2. I got this on a list I'm on and the sender
came back later to apologize, saying there was a limit and they'd already reached the limit.

Can you check on that?

8. Wow. I thought I had checked this out pretty well.
The counter on their website is still counting and it genuinely looks as though donations are still being accepted, but you are right. I read the fine, fine print in their terms page and they capped the donations at 100K. They say donations are still being accepted if you want to send in your own dollar to the foundation.

I guess I should let my loved ones know as well. Too bad. I hate it when that happens.

Thanks, janeaustin, for letting me (and others) know.

3. I lit a candle on World AIDS Day. I'm impressed at the number
of candles that have been lit.

12. I noticed that the donations were capped at $100,000
I donated on World Aids Day and noticed that the count was way over 100,000 so all those well meaning peoples' time and energy was wasted. Including mine.

I guess Bristol Myers Squibb is so broke that they just can't donate more than 100 big ones? :sarcasm:
