A German appeals court on Thursday convicted the friend of three 9/11 pilots of abetting their plot.

“The defendant is guilty not only of membership in a terrorist organisation, but also as an accessory to murder of the 246 passengers and crew members of the crashed aircraft,” said Germany's Federal Court of Justice.


The 32-year-old was convicted of being an accessory to murder and could face a maximum 15 years in prison.

El Motassadeq, arrested in Hamburg in November 2001, was a friend of Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah, three of the September 11 pilots, when they lived and studied in Hamburg.
