The Reesurrection of Newt Gingrich..
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 12:19 PM by kentuck
It's inevitable. Like a criminal returning to the scene of a crime. The Republicans recall fondly their landslide victory of 1994 and the architect of that victory, Newt Gingrich. Newt will talk about a "return to our conservative values" and "Reagan conservatism". Like a drowning man in an ocean grasping at a straw, the Republicans will leap to defend the ideas of Newt. We may even get a "New Contract For America"?

2. Good
Ten minutes of exposure will remind people what an unutterable fuck this guy is. I am praying he runs for the presidency in '08.

8. Yep I too welcome this. Newt is just as nutty as ever - given to grand
pronouncements revealing his warped view of history. And he has a ton of personal baggage for political opponents to pick over as soon as Newtie sticks his head up again. Newt is what a battleship captain would call a "target rich opportunity."

7. But but but
Wasn't Newts "takeover" the start of the slide into corruption. Remember old Newie boy had to resign himself because of the corruption he found himself in....but the media....that only jumps on the democrats will let that slip by.

And CNN...they are still raling about Murtha and Hoyer in the "divided" dems new congress.....and the horse race in the republican party has added Lott to the mix. Boy they can't get enough of slurring dems can they.

9. I thought for sure that Newtie was planning a Pres run in 2008
He was on the Daily Show and Jon specifically asked him about it. He was coy which led me to immediately suspect he was considering a run.

13. Oh, we can only hope--after all, who better to trumpet the distraction from real issues of a...
..."defense of marriage" Republican-style candidacy than this much-married, dying-wife-deserting deadbeat. Wonder how "the base" of "values voters" will rationalize THAT.

15. When they refer to a return to the Gingrich republicans they forget one thing
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 12:39 PM by auburngrad82
Gingrich is pretty much the mastermind behind the neocons. He started all this shit, right down to the questionable ethics. I lived in Marietta, GA when Gingrich was speaker and he was constantly under investigation for questionable ethics. He's also the founder of the k-street project and the man who trained DeLay to be the crooked fuck that he is.

Gingrich fails the family values test as well, as most of us already know.

He's also the one who pushed mudslinging to a fine art. And Dems are just now beginning to use framing with any consistency. Gingrich pioneered framing with a list of words that Repugs were expected to use when talking about Dems (words like "radical", "liberal", "questionable", etc). He's one of the big reasons "liberal" is such a dirty word with Repugs.

He needs to be exposed for what he is before the Repugs succeed in regrouping the neocons under a new name, ie "Gingrich republicans".

17. Rethugs love this man
It's hilarious listening to RW radio nowadays. They shudder in revulsion when McCain and Guliani are brought up, then salivate at the thought of Gingrich making a comeback.

I, too, would love to see Newt run in '08. No better way to guarantee a Democratic win. Unless, of course, Jeb * decides to run.

I would only HOPE that the registered rethugs would see through him like a lot of the slow learners eventually saw through their AWOL Monkey-Boy.
