I want to apologize
I posted a thread yesterday featuring a reasoned argument for a way to deal with the gay marriage argument. I apparently offended a whole lot of people, which wasn't what I wanted to do at all.

I just wanted to say sorry for that.

I will no longer offer any commentary on the subject from here on out. Obviously it isn't welcome.

That is all.

1. commentary is always welcome....
This is a community-- sometimes we offend one another, but what we should learn from that is diplomacy and tolerance, not silence. I'm sure the folks who took offence from your comments appreciate your apology, but none of us should seek to prevent the expression of diverse views. We can argue about them and we all benefit from the exchange. But don't ever think that it isn't welcome. When that happens we will become incredibly boring.

2. Didn't read the thread
But I want to say that if I apologized every time I pissed off someone, I'd never stop. You are entitled to an opinion. Please don't stop posting and sharing ideas.

3. I kinda recall your post and wasn't offended. Too many DUers are thin-skinned.
Don't worry too much about it.

4. Tough topic...
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 08:17 PM by IndyOp
One of the ministers of my local Unitarian Church had for a very, very long time thought that 'civil unions' with the legal rights of marriage, just without the word 'marriage' would be sufficient. Then one day, when she was driving to work, she wound up stuck behind a truck with a bumper sticker of "one man stick figure + one woman stick figure = marriage" and she became 'inexplicably' enraged. By the time she got to work and calmed down, it dawned on her that "separate is not equal". Simple that. In many contexts, those of us who are compassionate try to make separate more fair, but in the end it is still not equal. A last comment: The minister has been in a loving gay relationship with her partner for over 20 years and it wasn't until she saw that damned (blessed?) bumper sticker that she finally saw the light.

:-)

5. My argument was about the definition of marriage
and how the government should stay out of the marriage business and religion should stay out of the domestic-partnership contract business.

It devolved from there.

6. I missed your thead too but I really hope that an atmosphere
doesn't develop here that would discourage anyone from voicing their opinions. I've been visiting Freep land recently (I know - but it's so fun to read their dismal threads these days), and anytime someone doesn't follow a specific line of thinking - they get all pissy and tell the poster to go back to DU or wherever. It was very sad to read and I was thinking how much better DU was than that.

7. May I have a link to that thread?

I would like to form my own opinion.

8. OK.
Apology noted, but we don't want a repeat of the flamewar here.
