Ok...so this might not be the best place to post this, but it sure seems to me that it would be nice to start pointing out some songs. . .or some vids. . .or something that might be motivating as we hit the home stretch in this hot campaign season.
This has been a rollercoaster time for me these last two years - as a gay American, reading the daily attacks by right wing lunatics has taught me how to get harder and stronger about myself and my rights - and to remind myself that I am an American citizen by birth and am entitled to the same respect and the same human dignity as anyone else on this planet. To those who would try to deny that constitutional reality, ro who steadfastly cling to the notion that America must amend state and federal constitutions to deny me the equal protection of the laws of my own country, I only have this to say: "It is time to take out the trash."
Any citizen who would deny another American their birthright is a traitor - they are little better (if at all) to the "terrorists" which this Administration hauls out every other day as the major threat to this nation. When my own people are denied the right to serve proudly in my own country's armed forces without harassment or threat of discharge. . .when my own instinctive emotional attachments are belittled as insignificant merely because of the direction my peepee points. . .when my right to hold the job I choose and the career I dream of is questioned repeatedly by a Republican Party which claims to be on speed dial to God, then it is not my ocmmunity which threatens the moral and social fabric of this great nation. It is the obsessive duplicity, the direct manipulation of the truth, the utter neglect of the people of this Nation which threatens to destroy us. I read something a few days ago which talked about how the Right is doing exactly what it wanted to do about our system and our government - not by governing by mishap...but by doing everything possible to annihilate every sense of trust remaining in the minds of the American people about the sanctity and the integrity of our own system. I wish I could remember where (online) I read that article, because that is the best assessment yet of the threat of the Republican Right extremists. . .the intentional devaluation of our own belief in ourselves until we no longer have any faith in our own ability to govern.
With that in mind, for those of you who can link to youtube. . .I'll offer this song as a sign of hope and memory for the struggles of all true Americans:
