22. Outrageous hyperbole does not truth make.
Nader played his part in the last five years, just like the rest of us.

Ultimately, we are all responsible for what has happened.

But I'd say that Bush and Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, DeLay, and several others are more responsible than us or Nader.

6. At the very least, this is what he publicly stated that he wanted
He wanted the nation to swing to the right. He got it, and with the aid of the GOP to boot.

29. I remember something like that, but
don't remember where (old-timer's you know?). Nader was of the opinion that if neocons won, they would take the country so far to the right that the damage caused would backlash against them. I really can't say I believed he was sincere at the time, although I must admit the idea might be possible - IF the neocons can be stopped before they get a stranglehold on all of us. I was never a fan of causing death, heartache, and destruction to accomplish that end, either.

31. Yes
I remember reading it, but I don't know if it was a quote. It'd be nice to know for sure... that'd sure shut up a lot of the people who claim he was only trying to help... or otherwise help to stop people from saying it, if it wasn't true.

Now back to the fight against Alito.

11. I do not blame Nader.
I put the blame squarely on the people who voted for him in states where Gore had a chance to win.
Most of the people who voted for Nader were progressives/liberals.

Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 02:30 PM by Village Idiot
All the voters disenfranchised in Ohio and Florida, the overcounting in Wisconsin and New Mexico, the faulty/hacked e-Voting machines with no paper trails, missing ballots, improperly counted absentee ballots...

Man - Ralphie-boy has a lot to answer for.

On edit - I can now see why your ID is NormaR and not NormaL.

If he'd thought with his big one instead of the little one and kept it in his pants, Nader would've never been a factor anywhere in the country in 2000.

21. I'll jump on this train, baby!
I feel exactly the same way. He could have gotten behind us instead of dividing us. Last time he even knew the RNC was giving him donations and he gladly accepted them. I used to worship Ralph's ideology and thought he was the most intelligent thinker since Silent Spring came out. What a crashing disappointment his f-ing ego has been to the entire universe.

23. but not Nader's fault alone, nor even primarily
What has happened since was an "overdetermined" result. Nader's candidacy was one of many factors that contributed to how the 2000 election was stolen, not whether it would have been. Had he bowed out of the race in August, the GOP would have found another way to "rebalance" Florida, of this much I am certain.

He is certainly blameworthy for the role he played, but let us not use him as a blinder to the scores of other players in this sad tragedy.

30. You must be assuming "this" all started in 2000.
Well, it didn't. And you might as well blame it all on George Washington.

Our degradation started long ago. I personally remember a guy named Ronald Reagan. But older folks remember things before that. Like McCarthy.

34. Give it a break
Blaming Ralph is absolutely childish. I voted for Ralph, and I am happy that I did. He was the only one with the balls to say what he really believed. He mobilized hundreds of thousands if not millions of young people that the Democratic party left behind. They weren't speaking to us at all. IF Ralph Nader didn;t run, there would have been a smaller total vote count, not a victory for Gore. Blame Karl Rov and the Supreme court. Blame Gore for not embracing Clinton. But leave Ralph out of it.
