Anyone hear the call Randi just took?
I think Randi was a snarky bitch. The woman was talking about the school system in Florida and how it wasn't working. She did come off abit like she was blaming the kids abit too much but Randi was completely out of line. When the call was done Randi said right before the break, "I'm glad she's out of the school system" So now Randi knows it all about teaching?

Before you flame me and tell me I don't love Randi don't. I listen to her everyday and LOVE her 95 percent of the time. This phone call just astounded me. And I'd like to hear anyone elses take on it.

8. That would apply to just about anyone in her line of work.
Ask any of them - they'll tell you how great they are. :)

7. I'm well aware of that. However
that doesn't mean she knows what a teachers life is about. She was out of line. She just came back from break and called the woman a "bitch". Real nice coming from someone who has a radio show for a forum shouted out to someone who can't respond. Seems to me we said the same thing about Bill O'reilly when he bad mouthed Jeremy Glick (I hope I got that right)

28. ok pug. just caught it on the radio.
i understand why it bothered you.
it seemed like one of those cases where randi is distracted with something and not really paying attention to the caller and hears bits and pieces.
randis assertion that the husband was this 'type' who was teaching as a fallback for a disgruntled executive seemed to be a leap I didnt quite make.
im not sure what set randi off on the lady, maybe blaming it on the kids or her agreeing with her husband quitting but it didnt seem fair.
her going off on the lady and calling her a bitch after the break didnt seem warranted either.

i agree with you. randi seemed wrong from what i heard. i suppose she could be right but i didnt come to the same conclusions.

dachshundlover....:)

3. Right
It seemed like Randi couldn't blame the brat kids for anything. She obviously hasn't been in a school since 1955.

from time to time. Her snark annoys me - and there are times she doesn't have all the facts straight.
I don't dislike her. She just gets on my nerves sometimes.

19. Sometimes I wonder if she is bipolar....
Not a slam to her, just an observation...

Somedays she can be so "full of life," respectful of others, determined to talk through issues, even with those who lean rightward...

Then come the days when she is on edge, jumping to conclusions so that she doesn't even hear when someone is AGREEING with her, talks over her callers to the point I don't know why they bother, and her ego seems primed to the maximum. I really hate listening on those days...

While she can sometimes take the time to become very well informed, which I admire, when I hear her arguing a misinformed viewpoint with a knowledgeable attorney caller or physician/health provider (who are patiently trying to explain an issue to her), I became very frustrated....

5. I love Randi too
But she is kind of the Emily Litella (for you SNL history buffs) of radio. It's not unusual for her to go off on a rant when it's obvious to anyone listenting that she has misunderstood the caller or has missed the caller's point.

6. Asks for Calls describing the scene on the ground
then refuses to accept what the caller had to say - Randi insisted that she knew the truth and the the teacher there actually on the scene every day doesn't know what she is talking about.

Unbelievable arrogance from this fucking asshole...

Normally love her, but she is a victim of her own ego sometimes.

to crap like that. Again I do think the caller came across abit above it all. But Randi was just a complete asshole.

24. Sorry if you take this to be another "bash Randi" thread.
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 04:28 PM by Puglover
It isn't nor was it meant to be. It was a legitimate question about ONE phone call asking for other listeners opinions. I do know however that when you start a thread about Randi one can always count on the "I LOVE Randi, how DARE you question her" folks or conversely the "I hate the bitch" folks to chime in and add NOTHING of substance to the discussion.

You have yourself a nice day!

her I she just seemed to go off. Have you ever heard inner city teachers bitching about their students? Trust me they all aren't Angels. They are human like we are.

15. My brother is a Biology teacher on Chicago's Southside.
and I can assure he never blames his students.

That woman had zero business ever having been in education. period.

16. Well your brother is a saint.
I assure you, I know plenty of teachers who can recognize an asshole student when they see one. My best friend is a principle in a Lutheran Day School in Brooklyn and she has plenty of horror stories about certain students and their parents. And she is the best educator I've ever known.

30. It was the caller's husband who was a teacher, I thought
The caller was a homeschooler. So the caller was not in education. She was frustrated with what her husband had to go through, and mentioned that it was affecting their home life.

For Randi to have called her a 'bitch' was out of line. Usually she's compassionate when people have to go through hard times. She could agreed to disagree and had some sympathy for the difficulties at home this family had to endure because of the husband's experiences in the school system.

Randi was wrong on this one.

And I've seen other DUers point out: Randi seems to be harsher on female callers, for some reason, than male callers. I've dismissed that observation, but after today, those who have previously pointed it out may have hit on something.

I heard the majority of the call but missed Randi calling her caller a 'bitch' because I had grocery shopping to do. Glad I missed it.

21. The caller was dismissive of poor families, elitist in her judgments
and was blaming the students and families for the system's failures. I thought Randi was absolutely correct in her assessment of the caller.

11. I prefer when she's ranting on her own.
But when she takes a call, all too often the caller can't get two words out before she's off on what she thinks he/she was going to say. I usually just turn the radio down.

18. I totally agree - sort of wish it wasn't a call in show.
Like I'm not excusing how she treats callers, it irritates me too. But I listen to the show a lot because she really is pretty brilliant, and her commentary is so frequently fresh and dead on.

She is actually the opposite of Malloy on this. My personal opinion is, I love the way Mike treats callers but find his solo commentary to be fairly uninspired and shrill. With Randi, I hate the way she treats callers but find her solo commentary to be fantastic.

23. I mostly agree with you
Mike is a LOT more professional with liberal callers (and guests) than Randi is. He lets them talk, doesn't shout at them, and sometimes even holds them over breaks. Though admittedly, they both give the red-ass to freeper callers. :D

Honestly, in talk radio, you're supposed to be nice to supportive callers, and argumentative to opposing callers; that's just the way everyone usually does it.

26. I agree totally.
Yes, I found Malloy a bit much on his solo, but with phone calls he was tops. And Randi can just go on and on with facts and names and dates and it's all really quite interesting to me, but with callers - eh, not so much.

But I still listen and will continue to. That's why I have a volume knob I guess.

Oh shit. I've avoided posting anything at all about him all these years. I could tell that people here love him. I tried listening to him and I got the same impression you did. Never got his appeal, but I agree with both the pro and con Randi posts. There are times when I love her and times when I have to pass.
