Minimum wage should be tied to Congressional pay raises
If they can't see fit to raise the minimum wage to at least $7.50/hr. then they should not get a raise of any kind. When Congress people vote to give themselves raises and refuse to authorize a higher minimum wage, that is nothing more than thumbing their noses at the poor people. Politicians are supposed to work for us, and until they do, they should not get any pay raises. Quite frankly, very few of them have done anything to deserve it anyway.

1. In his book "Take This Job & Ship It" Senator Dorgan
states that if minimum wage had kept up with CEO pay since 1990 it would now be $23.08 per hour.

Excellent book, btw!

3. Backwards
Congressional pay rasies should be tied to the minimum wage.

If they want a raise, they need to raise our wages first.

6. Absolutely.
I've been saying this for a long time. Likewise, executive salaries should also be capped at a fixed level above their companies' lowest wages.

11. I worked for a company ...
where ALL management pay rates were tied to the rate of the lowest paid person in the company.

There was extreme loyalty amongst the laborers. Productivity is incredible when you feel good about your job and the money you make.

The company went on to become employee owned.

Cheers

12. Should just be set as a simple formula
Something like:

Hourly Minimum Wage = Annual Congressional Salary / X

I don't know what X should be, here are some example minimum wages with different values for X:

28000: $5.90
26000: $6.35
24000: $6.88
22000: $7.51
20000: $8.26
18000: $9.18

Note rule of thumb: annual salary = 2000 x hourly wage...

Not to quibble with your point, just adding that little factoid.

14. I agree 100%. I can't believe no national politico is suggesting this.
I would tie it to Social Security COLA's as well.

17. In my state, Oregon
we have the hightest miminum wage - $7.50. (*Or one of the highest)

My Rep. Pete DeFazio does not accept his raise. Instead he puts it into a scholarship fund.

:bluebox: *State w/hightest min wage

:bluebox: A rep that does not accept the congressional raise

This is how it should be.

18. I think this is a pretty good idea
We might also consider providing all Americans with the same level of healthcare that our senators and representatives get.

21. In Missouri...
Claire McCaskill has been running ads against Talent on this very issue. She said she would not vote for a pay increase until minimum wage is increase. A very good ad if you ask me.
