Foley Followed The Rules, Norms For Pages<snip>
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Operating within acceptable boundaries allowed former ex-Rep. Mark Foley to pursue relationships with House pages during and after they left Washington.
Foley, the Florida Republican who resigned Sept. 29 after suggestive electronic messages to male congressional pages surfaced, was regarded as one of the friendliest congressmen, befriending many pages during their tenure, former pages told the Washington Post Sunday. His actions initially did not seem forward.
Former pages told the Post Foley's messages began innocently but became more suggestive to select pages as they neared completion the program or shortly after they graduated. No one could relate an instance in which Foley had sexual contact with a former page. Foley's attorney did not comment.
Other contributing factors included the ability for male pages to develop mentoring relationships with the male lawmakers more easily than female pages, the Post said.
