It's easy to be a Repuke candidate! All you have to do is say "tax cut" (preferably for the rich,) support staying the course in Iraq, appease the religious right, and let the powerful become more powerful. You don't really have to solve problems! As Bill Clinton said at the rally for Lois Murphy in Bryn Mawr, PA yesterday, the Repukes in power are ideologues - they have no real political label. They represent themselves. That's why our country has become unrecognizable.

It's taken a while, but I think our message is beginning to cut through the simplistic "policies" and sound bytes of the Bush misadministration. I'm hopeful!

1. They have no statesmen (or women) in their Party.....just celebrities.
It started with that well known GE and Boraxo flak, Ron Reagan.

3. Same with Schwarzenegger, and..
it goes back to Reagan. Even the thinking conservatives, who I also disagree with, are left out. It's just gotten more and more evident.

5. What makes this guy think he's qualified to be governor, anyway?
Just because he can run around it tight pants and try to catch balls doesn't make him fit for a political career.

Oh, wait. I forgot about the right-wing types, like Mark Foley. He was a ball player, or at least a big ballfan. Yeah, Swann could fit right in, if that's the only criteria.

6. Hey, not all ex-jocks run as Republicans. . .
Right now, there's a former NFL quarterback for the Washington Redskins who is running for Congress in North Carolina's 11th CD (the western tip, including Asheville). As a Democrat.

His name? Heath Shuler:
www.heathshuler.com

He's been introduced at rallies by former NC Sen. John Edwards:

:kick:

And his campaign ads are hard-hitting against the execrable Charles Taylor:

:kick:

This is a very winnable seat, and in the South, no less. If you can, send Shuler some $$ at his campaign site:

8. If Swann manages to win
maybe we could get Lester Hayes to run against him next time. Swannie don't wanta go that route.
