Just like rust, once it starts, the metal does not return to normal no matter how you clean it. That rust becomes permanent and continues to eat away at the base metal. Same thing here. Once the bullshit of "We are the family values party" is shown to be bullshit, they do not recover the lost voters, nor can they bounce back. The damage is done and stays with them.

Yes, I agree that that specific facts of FoleyGate may disappear into the ether over time, especially with a crowded news agenda in the run-up to the election. But I submit, the damage will stay with. The only thing they can hope for is to bring the Dems down with their own scandal.
