I almost feel bad for Duke Cunningham now.
It turns out he's very nearly illiterate. Check it:

http://69.20.5.88/docs/cunnnigham-stern1.html

"The lords prayer forgive me by debts As I would forgive my first sin Each night is the failure to forgive the U.T. Not Just Coverage but the brutal two and three pages each week that has nearly destroyed me and my family. You write You book and remember what forge got from Wade They you printed As truth will come out and you will find out how liablist you have & will be."

A Member of Congress is expected to read a great deal. They are also expected to write occasionally. If someone else is doing your heavy lifting for you, as someone obviously was for the Duke, it's that someone else who is effectively representing the district, not you. You're just the dumbass blowhard in the window--and you're a sucker, just begging to be exploited.

It's one more example of how Cunningham was a shitty Representative who utterly failed his district and his country. Shame on him, and shame on the political weasels who catapulted his clueless ass into the office in the first place.

I said I almost feel bad for him. But I don't.

1. When you think about...
When you think about taking bribes when it comes to the defense of our country (which includes making sure our soldiers have everything they need).... I have no sympathy.

2. Wow!
Just . . . wow.

I used to hang with a couple student pilots. They had to be able to read and write.

Guess the really brilliant flyers get to skip that part . . .

4. writing teacher home from writing 102
I started to read it and then I said "WTF?" Didn't I just get my twice-weekly shot of bad prose?

I've often wanted to go around giving a writing sample to the U.S. legisltaive reps and the president, v-p, secretary of state and a few others. I'll bet most cannot write coherently.

6. This guy should never have gotten into politics but
its too bad he turned out to be corrupt..he was an exceptional Navy Pilot during the Vietnam war and was the first Ace of the Vietnam war..Now I know,I know he is a Republican but one person doesnt take 2.6 million in bribes without help..Its obvious he's the fall guy for many others..

7. “I would have no hesitation about lining them up and shooting them,”
Wonder why liberals lose? Puke Cunningham was a NRA gun nut who talked about lining up Vietnam protestors and shooting them. How can progressives feel sorry for this guy who would exterminate us if he legally could. Check it out.

"Cunningham recently told the Washington Post that Democrats blunting Republican legislation “ought to be lined up and shot. I’m talking about the liberal leadership.”

In February, Cunningham made similar remarks about Vietnam War protesters to a Blade-Citizen reporter. “I would have no hesitation about lining them up and shooting them,” he said. “Those people should be shot for what they did to us over there.”"

8. You're probably right, for the reason I gave above.
It's obvious to me now that Duke was a sucker--a criminally-minded sucker. It looks like he has reading issues and so he probably took the spoken word of snakes like Mitchell Wade--a very bad idea in the first place. He probably never went over the paperwork himself and likely trusted someone else to do the covering up for him.

The MZM people may have taken advantage of that liability and may have intentionally set Duke up to take the fall, as he laments in that letter. But no matter; he knew the bad half of what he was doing, and that was the important half.

As far as Duke's service to our country, I have little sympathy for him now. The Swift Boaters literally exchanged their service for points in a political smear campaign, and I hope that disgrace eclipses anything they ever did in the Navy and follows them to their graves. Duke exchanged his service for political power and money--at the expense of the American taxpayer. Both examples remind me a lot of Pete Rose--yeah, he was great, but he also bet against his own team, so screw him. So did those other guys, and screw them, too.
