Tom Kean Jr. Calls For Hastert Resignation.
Friday, October 06, 2006
New Jersey GOP candidate calls for Hastert's resignation
From CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- New Jersey Republican Senate candidate Tom Kean Jr. said House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, should resign over the Foley scandal. "He is the head of the institution, and this happened on his watch," Kean's spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker said.

"The culture of 'protecting each other' has eroded Congress and the public's faith in government," she said in reference to charges House Republican leaders didn't respond quickly enough to stop former Rep. Mark Foley's improper interaction with teen-aged pages.

Kean also thinks House leaders should appoint an outside panel to review the matter, Hazelbaker said.

Kean trails Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez by three points among likely voters in the latest USA Today/Gallup poll. Menendez's lead is within the poll's margin of error.

3. Very interesting! Hastert is going to make it through . . .

The next few days, and then he'll have Kean's balls on a plate. Mr. Kean might find his party support falling off a bit as he moves into the critical final weeks of the campaign. I love it.

4. Helping all the Races
As long as Hastert is in there people can look at him see the cover up. So heck yes let him stay. The thing is the dems have to keep on saying it and keeping this in the limelight. The republican press has already dropped it. What we need is another page to make a fuss.

7. I watched a report from Batavia, Illinois..........
Hastert's hometown. They still love the guy and don't believe a word that's being said about him. Because he told the so. :eyes: Talk about being in denial! Of course, all the pork he's poured into his hometown might have something to do with it as well.

I'm glad a few Republicans are taking a stand against Fat Bastert. I wonder if they would if it wasn't an election year though? Probably not. Ethics aren't the Republicans' strong suit.

9. That's the same people that applauded him yesterday as he
apologized for allowing the Congressional page to be sexually harrassed by a member of Congress. Fuck the local yokels. They love 'their' man. Mr. Hastert is a heavy handed politician a la Tom DeLay.

10. If you have a repub Represntative give them a call
and ask them when they are going to hold their leadership (Hastert, Reynolds, Boehner, and Shimkus) responsible for endangering our children.

The more the repubs turn into a circular firing squad the better.

13. They've stopped
the circular firing squad and lined up the leaders in a straight-line, employer/supervisor defense combined with a "the buck stops here" offense. Employees are required to report sexual abuse in the work place to their immediate supervisor. And each supervisor is required to report the incident on up the supervisor chain to the head dog. Reynolds is saying he reported the abuse to Boehner, his supervisor and Boehner is saying he reported it to Hastert, his immediate supervisor and head dog.

While Haster is claiming the buck stops with him, he is simultaneously denying that Boehner reported the page abuse to him. Boehner, wilingly or not, is being set up to take the fall. And the repub's fake "the buck stops here" strategy IS allowing their leadership to appear as if they are taking responsibility!

11. By that same logic, he should be calling on bush to resign ...
... for all that ails us.

"He is the head of the institution, and this happened on his watch."
