I don't believe he's a neocon and is not part of the cabal. Given the other Republican options, I am worried about who his replacement would be.

21. Not resigning is best for us

If he hangs on it keeps the scandal on pg 1. Resigns and it will fade for awhile as Bush gets the sheeple talking about something else. There is 5 weeks until the election, the 'investigation' will go quietly on, Foley will remain in rehab, and the public can't keep their mind on one thing for 5 wks unless there is something in front of them to hold their interest. They will say Hastert has been punished if he resigns and go onto something else.
