I've successfully steered my kid away from Disney stuff.

Since Steve Jobs is the largest single shareholder of Disney (7%), I got my wife an iRiver MP3 player instead of an iPod for our anniversary.

Revisionist history is the very lowest form of lying.

10. Still not watching ABC or related channels...
I have a BIG satellite dish system (and also am in the satellite business) and one of the joys about this is I can subscribe to a package of channels that does NOT have ESPN, ESPN 2, Disney, and Family Channel. My package was up for renewal last week and I enjoyed finding a package minus these channels:)) On another note I am pissing off some of my friends who watch the crap on ABC and want to tell me about the new shows they've seen. I've told them to not even bother telling me anything about these shows, not at all interested in them.

until such time as media ownership laws change, or they allow Michael Moore to present a 5 hour prime time documentary of his choice without commercial interruption, or something to that effect.

I appreciate that they broke the Foley story, but it's too little too late.

I am clicking on internet links. If people want to criticize that, then so be it.

36. I never stopped watching
Boston Legal and Dancing with the Stars - when this subject was popular because of the path to 9/11 I asked several times - how my not watching two ABC shows when nobody knows or gives a shit whether I watch them or not could make one bit of difference - nobody was able to give me an answer

So I chose other and will be happily watching Boston Legal who bash the devil-in-chief's admin often (as a matter of fact on Tuesday they made a crack about the 1% doctrine) and also Dancing with the Stars - its really the only TV I watch - I enjoy it - and not watching it and denying myself a little happiness - will prove nothing to ABC or anyone else...

Now if someone can convince me that it matters or will accomplish something I am perfectly willing to rethink my position....

37. What's the goal? Forever? Foley story, Diebold?
Not good enough huh? You can't boycott something forever. It never works and it's just plain stupid. What do you want Disney to do? Few can answer that. Every media outlet does good and bad from time to time. One minute Comedy Central is next to God because of Daily Show, next their evil incarnate because of the GOP lovers' South Park. CBS is great when Dan Rather tells about Bush and AWOL, but Nazis when Katie Couric softballs Condoleeza. Disney may not have distributed Fahrenheit 9/11 but they DID finance the making of it.

I will venture to guess that those who say their "holding strong" never watch ABC, and are not Disney fans, or have children, period.

The Apple story is a non-story as this has been hashed out in a previous thread that Manny Goldstien started, and Manny wants to pretend that it never existed, as his ass was handed to him in it. Steve Jobs had nothing to do with PT9/11, has no say in green lighting anything, even if he's the biggest shareholder of Disney. Nobody but Manny and the standard Apple haters thought it was important. Manny used this silly non-issue as a non-sequitur to proudly proclaim that he's found Linux, and was seeking any reason to bash Apple, and evangelize (push his lifestyle on everyone else) on the 72 virgins of Linux ownership.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2177579

Tell me what you want Disney to do, and I'll join your boycott. If it's forever, then it's just a stupid boycott.

39. I don't know of an ABC show I'd want to watch
But if one comes along, I'll watch it.

I fail to see how "boycotting" a TV network that neither knows nor cares whether I watch has any effect on anything.

If you want to organize a live protest — picket a network headquarters or its affiliates, for example — I'll be there. But not doing something accomplishes little, if anything.

I also resent the tone of the second choice in this poll.

42. Honestly,
I'm not boycotting ABC because I don't think it matters. I think that one miniseries is not going to change the minds of all that many people. It's mostly only going to do what Fahrenheit 9/11 did. People who agree with it will watch it and say "Wow, they are right!" People who don't agree with it won't watch it. On the whole, the number of minds it actually changes will be minuscule. The only thing it really does is reinforce the views of the person watching it.

Anyway, you look at any network, you are going to find them showing something you don't agree with. You could have said that CBS was supporting the Christian Coalition when it was showing "Joan of Arcadia" or "Touched by an Angel." I could have decided to boycott CBS when they decided not to air the Reagan series. Generally, it's all going to even out.

Mostly, what it boils down to for me is that ABC has the right to broadcast movies that they think will earn ratings. We have the right not to watch. The best antidote for false speech is more speech. If someone starts to spout nonsense from that movie, then show tell them how it was wrong. In the long run, that's going to do more good then a boycott against Disney. I mean really, what exactly is it accomplishing now? I can't see how it's going to change ABC's policy now.

You can call me a hypocrite if you want, but I don't think I am, because to me, the miniseries was never a big issue in the first place.

There's little I watch on the station, except maybe a little football.

However, I do look forward to the "Lost" season three premiere episode on Wednesday. But if it makes anyone feel better, it's over the air (through an antenna) and I saw the first two seasons through torrents, so they don't receive any money from me.

44. I have no intention of joining this childish "boycott" and...
will watch any ABC show I want. There really aren't many I like, but I'm still gonna watch if I feel like it.

If I'm going to sacrifice my enjoyment of something, like "Boston Legal," it damn well better accomplish something, or what's the point? And a few people not watching isn't going to mean a bit of difference.

And what's this bullshit about Apple? Is Jobs a bad guy? Maybe he does have too much money, but what's the point of trying to take it away from him over a stupid movie everyone's forgotten about? Did he finance the movie? Did he have anything to do with it at all? Why punish Apple, which had even less to do with it?

Half the people here "boycotting" don't watch anyway, so where's the sacrifice there? Bragging about not doing something you don't want to do anyway isn't exactly a high point of honor.
