Any DUer who has not called at least one Senator today....
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:31 AM by Armstead
Fill in the blanks. :banghead:

But seriously, call at least your own Democratic Senator (if you have one) and Reid's office to urge the Democrats to pull whatever tricks they can to block or delay the torture bill today. More if you can, but at least do that much.

If there was ever a time to exercizse some grass-roots DU Power this is it.

Even if nothing comes of it, at least you'll know you did what you can.

5. Called both my repug Senators and then started calling Dems
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 12:02 PM by Democrat 4 Ever
So far I've called eight Democratic offices - left messages demanding a filibuster. Feel like I'm spitting into the wind.

Got plenty pissed (while remaining polite) with my own two members of the Bush Crime Family - McConnell and Bunning's offices. Told them I expected them to come down on the side of Americans and the Constitution and filibuster (know they got a good chuckle out of that) and that I was sick and tired of the corruption within the Republican party. That both of them would have to run on their sorry records and many, many people will not forget what they are doing to this country.

Both offices were polite, took notes, etc. And told McConnell's office that I didn't want a stupid letter from Mitch talking to me like I was a moron. They he didn't need to explain the issues to me that apparently I understood the issues and the Constitution better than he did. Also told them he needn't write the letter as if I agreed with him. That it was disingenuous and insulting and flat out dishonest. Told them that McConnell was free to give me a call if he wanted to talk (ha!). Think he even giggled at that one.

14. My suggestion was to call Democratic senators
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:47 AM by Armstead
Reid and otehr leaders.

State borders matter less in this. They need to know that Americans are opposed to the Torture Bill and want them to take some action against it.

And, if nothing else, do it for yourself.

3. I called both my Senators
I wanted very much to thank them: Leahy for giving voice to what I felt today, shame, despair and outrage, and Jeffords for voting aye on the amendment. Even with a touch of senility, he's worth more than most of those bastards. I also called Reid.

And much as I love Leahy, I'm sad that he and other dems traded away the filibuster for the right to introduce amendments.

They both stand for all that's right (gigantic defense contracts for useless projects, protections and subsidies for oil companies, complete and utter indifference to the environment and subservience to their christian masters) and against all that's wrong (gay marriage, not enough freedom to torture, not enough wiretapping of citizens, raising the minimum wage, withdrawing from Iraq and reopening an independent 9/11 investigation).

They will go down in history as two of Texas' finest.

Oh, let me finish that last sentence: Pieces of shit.

I won't bother calling Frist but i did call Alexander. His staffer was actually saying that he is undecided on his vote and that most of the calls and letters toady are against the Torture bill. I told him that I expected him to vote as Frist did since he always has in the past 4 years. I told him that it is time to be an American first and a Republican second and vote for what is right for this nation like his idol Howard Baker had done 30 years ago during the Watergate hearings. I brought up the Magna Carta and other countries seeing us break the Geneva Conventions and feeling like they would have the right to do the same with our boys. He seemed moved and acted like he would pass this on to Alexander

We shall see. I bet he still votes for the bill.

You don't have to be a constituent to send a message.

And calling the Democratic Senators to encourage a little fire in their belly over this crucial issue has nothing to do with who you vote for in November.

52. I just called Senator Reid's office
and told the staffer who took my call that I want to see a filibuster on what I called "The War Crimes Protection Act."

I was pleasantly surprised by how polite and responsive he was. He gave me all the time I wanted to rant about it and said he couldn't tell me what Sen. Reid plans to do at this point, because there is "intense debate" going on right now and the situation changes from minute to minute.

I said I was aware of that, that I had C-Span on and Sen. Byrd had just introduced a "sunset clause" amendment. I told him that was better than nothing, but I didn't want to see it come to a vote at all and that I want the Dems to filibuster.

The staffer seemed willing to listen to my ranting for as long as I wanted to keep it up, but I figured it was better to get off the phone and someone else "have the floor" so to speak, as they will decide based upon the number of calls they get.
