What will happen here at DU if the Dems take
both houses? How will it change this board.

We have been the outsiders, the insurgents for all these years. We've been fighting the power.

What then?

This has been our comfort zone. Can we go from prisoners to caretakers?

1. What a great question! Something to ponder and perhaps relish.
I'm not relishing yet, mind you, but very interesting. I suspect everyone will be just as opinionated as they've ever been, and thoughtful, critical and proud.

Winning the election is only part of the battle.

31. Not only that, but you're forgetting that we need to become the pitbulls
to protect our Houses. You know the RW whackos aren't going to just go into hiding, they are going to be all over the media spreading their feces.

16. I couldn't have said it better myself
There will always be a need for DU, I think. We're like Daily Kos, only somewhat more laid back when we feel like it. And that's the beauty of DU - it's where grassroots Democrats across the nation can interact with each other on many different levels.

22. Second that.
I and many others will be bringing up things the Bush administration hoped we had forgotten. Like paying journalists and Cheney's fund-raising parties at the vp mansion . . . and about a hundred other things.

Make the bastards accountable and have hearings on all of it. Cover everything.

trust these thugs or these machines, and then we can concentrate on 2008, but we are dealing with some sick evil people.

8. Seriously...
I think this board will splinter into a relative majority of people who are happy with the Dems in power, and fully expecting things to turn around. The minority will, at best, consider a Democratic President a mere hiatus in the PNAC agenda to take over the world.

9. I've often wondered that too...
If Dems were to regain control of government, would it reduce the sense of urgency and proactivity on this board? Our mutual disgust with this administration fuels that urgency and unites us, and fuels the dialogue on this board.
Food for thought.

Of course it was so small it would be easy to misplace it. They just couldn't handle power.

Just kiddin'

Most of us are not here for the election, but for the issue advocacy, the news, and the friendship. After the election, none of that is going to change for me.

19. I do not know what WILL happen but I know what SHOULD
happen. If we are lucky enough to get both houses we should put our efforts toward two areas: First, we should help to defend the Dems against the attacks we know the right will be making and secondly we should use our abilities as researchers and advocates to influence legislation.

26. Hammer the dems as hard as we did/do the repugs
If we don't keep on top of them lord knows where shit will go.

A lot of dems have some similar roots (read, donations from corporations and such) and may well slide into pandering them.

We need to keep them honest, weed out the idjits, and scrutinize them - all while keeping tabs on the tricks of the right.

I won't breathe easier until not only are the dems in power, but until they have used that power the right way for the people.

We cannot let them sit there and say 'well, we got your vote, you will always vote for us, so we will do what we want' - voters give and we can take away from those who don't do the right thing.

with Dems who won't vote to take away our civil rights.
We need to have a referendum on them---they won't be able to hide.

The Pukes are going to fall away, leaving the Dems as the conservative party. The vacuum will be filled by people like us.

30. Here's what I want to do:
I want to pressure congress to undo the damage done by bush and his junta. We need our rights restored.

There are so many areas that need to be addressed. I am sure we can become a force of change. We can make sure our representatives listen to us.
