Taking girl for abortion could make you criminal
http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/73104,CST-NWS-minor27.article

WASHINGTON -- Accompanying a minor across a state line to obtain an abortion and avoid parental notification in the girl's home state would become a federal crime under a bill the House passed Tuesday.

Republican supporters said the 264-153 vote confirmed public sentiment that parental involvement superseded a minor's right to have an abortion. Democratic opponents foresaw the arrests of grandmothers and religious counselors trying to shield girls from abusive parents. snip

''Not since the enactment of the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850 have we used the powers of the federal government to enforce the laws of one state on the territory of another,'' said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), a leading opponent.

1. It's already a crime to take a minor across state lines
without parental permission. Not sure how this changes things.

5. I Think It Would Be Now Illegal, Even With Parental OK
Say Mrs Smith gets permission to take Jenny across the state line from her mother to go to a movie with her family, but instead drives her to the clinic. Even though Mrs Smith has permission to have Jenny with her and even to take her across the state line, since she is taking Jenny to a clinic, she has now committed a crime.

2. Its a catch... You cant drive after having an abortion. You have to
have someone with you. Its traumatic on your internal body. You bleed after. You need someone to help you take care of yourself. I only know from helping friends with this. But it is not an easy procedure. Its not like going in and getting your tooth pulled.

3. No, It's Because Mild Sedation Is Administered
It's less physically traumatic and less painful than having a tooth pulled, and there's less bleeding than having a molar pulled. Mild sedation, usually Valium, is given, and that's why, like after any procedure involving sedation, a driver is required. Not because of "trauma." Sedation.

6. According to my friends it hurts like hell and you bleed like a pig
Sedation is part of the procedure. But it doesn't feel good. As any of the girls I know who have had this procedure have told me, they would never want to go through that experience again. It is not just another happy ho-hum day at the Dr.s for a cold. It is seriously traumatic. My friends still mark the day of their abortion as the day of the death of their child. Like an anniversary of a departed loved one. Sometimes when life happens, there is nobody there to help catch you. It is the only choice you can think of. Especially if you are more well off and are in college. Its not the expected outcome that has been set on your head.

Anyway... don't treat abortion so lightly. As much as you want to say fetus... to any woman ever pregnant or wanting to be pregnant, they know that it is a baby and a life and sacraficing the child early on may be better than the life the child would have if born. Or in rape cases (which I highly recommend having Plan B in your possession for such instances) they may feel that they don't want something evil inside of them. Or for those who have problems and must abort due to medical complications (most of them don't want to lose the baby either). It is a tough choice. A choice that ought to be there... but I wish there were more choices.

7. I've had one; it isn't that traumatic. But guilt could make it seem so.
The cramping afterward is similar to the cramping after giving birth; the uterine wall is contracting to return to a pre-pregnancy size. The bleeding was heavy...but having now had a child...it's much less than after a delivery...more like an extra heavy period. The sedation makes you woozy so you shouldn't drive.
