Spinach as a weapon of mass destruction appears to be
today's live in fear story.

They miss the point--health risks abound when you de facto deregulate the food industry.

5. E coli outbreak in multiple states traced to bagged spinach
Spinach salads should be off the menu for now.

Proper cooking kills the bug.

8. IF it's only bagged spinach...
Does that mean that getting local stuff is still ok, one would think?

9. I just returned from grocery shopping, and all fresh spinach was
GONE from the shelves! Bagged, fresh bunched, and loose! Believe me, if they didn't take this seriously, they'd have never pulled it!

My husband works for this particular chain, and I KNOW how frugal (cheap) they are with the $!

Right before I went shopping I heardDr. Gupta on CNN say that the bagged spinach was still on the shelves. He even had several bags to show on camera. He said one was purchased last night and the other this morning.

We live in Ga. andthe last map I saw didn't show any southern states affected by this problem YET, but when I got home, my neighbors mother stopped by and told me her grandson was now in the hospital, and they think he might have this e-coli virus. They're still testing.

I'm sure not a panicer, but somebody needs to find the source of this SOON. 20% of the US istoo high to just ignore.

7. Who the hell eats RAW SPINACH????
Intellectual phonies, cappucino drinkers and anorexic models. Normal people eat spinach out of a can, cooked and sanitized.

I'm surprised no one here has tried to call this "germ warfare" against metrosexuals or something.

10. Ah, NO! Many salads are made eitherwith fresh spinach by itself or mixed
with other greens.

I also don't know for sure that cooking kills e-coli. I seem to remember whenthey were talking about it in chicken a while ago they said cooking didn't kill the virus. Not sure though. My brain is old and overloaded with too much junk!

14. Spinach IS slime. Either accept it or eat lettuce.
If there was a way to cook lettuce and can it, I'd eat it that way too. What did you expect when eating raw vegetables?
