My Concerns with "The Path to 9/11"
Posted by Dean Barnett | 1:48 PM

I know this may not be a popular sentiment around here, but I’m uncomfortable with the upcoming miniseries, “The Path to 9/11.” Let me explain why.

In the conservative portion of the blogosphere, the film has occasioned much joyous ballyhoo. At last, we seem to be collectively exclaiming, someone with an appropriately large soapbox is telling the true story of Bill Clinton’s neglect regarding terrorism.

...

THE CONTROVERSY ABOUT “The Path to 9/11” centers on one scene where CIA operatives and Northern Alliance irregulars under the leadership of the awe-inspiring Ahmed Shah Massoud have the opportunity to kill bin Laden. They phone NSA chief Sandy Berger for authorization to make the hit. Berger refuses to make the decision and in the scene actually hangs up on the operatives.

I’ve done a lot of reading and research regarding 9/11, and I have to admit that this story is new to me. The closest parallel I can think of is Tenet’s, Berger’s and Clinton’s irresolute follow-through on the Predator program which had the very real likelihood of knocking off bin Laden assuming the administration was willing to risk the death of innocents. Given the fact that Clinton was willing to take such a risk when the Lewinsky scandal reached its most fevered pitch, the fact that he wasn’t as bold without the looming specter of political calamity is damning. What’s more, the Clinton administration’s lethargic and chronically dilatory efforts to deal with bin Laden are an irrefutable part of the historical record.

...

The other explanation is that, being a docudrama, the filmmakers included a fabricated scene (which was a composite of many real factors) to dramatize the ineptitude and fecklessness that so characterized the Clinton administration. One can (if one so chooses) give the filmmakers artistic license to do such a thing. But if that is what they have done, conservative analysts who back this movie as a historical document will mortgage their credibility doing so.

1. I am torn. What do you do when an idiot agrees with you?
I like the fact that he knows the movie is a sham, but at the same time, he's still spouting the drivel that the far right creeps keep throwing around, namely that Clinton didn't try to apprehend Bin Laden.

5. All sides will probably be upset that it doesn't
represent the 'other' side in a worse light. That shows the nearly unavoidable bias of party politics.
I'm gonna withhold judgement till I see both parts of ABC's drama.

7. It's not about best and worst light for either side....
It's about putting forward fiction masqueraded as truth.
Because they know the MSM will not give debunkers the air time to expose the fiction. Thus, allowing an unwitting public to base voting decision on lies and propaganda.

15. He doesn't agree with you
he's still blaming Clinton, and still trying to mention things that never actually happened.

He's on our side (avoiding the show) but for reasons which make me not want him on our side.

9. Bush has divided us along party lines but
9/11 was a horrific nightmare for us all.I think as Americans deep down none of us want this politicized or used in this way.I am glad they have concerns. We're not so different when it comes to knowing right from wrong and this ABC drama is WRONG.

11. the comments, as always are breathtaking.
How about this gem:

Look, Dean has a point but the larger point is that the people, voters, who watch the MSM, ABC et al, will not have had the same material that we who watch Fox, have Talk Radio, the Net as our main news analysts. For a great number of Sheeple, this will be a shock, even cleaned up.

No hint of irony at all.

12. They see the fabricated events as an easy target
that undermines the propaganda value of the entire effort.

It may end up being similar to the CBS situation and Bush's National Guard desertion. Once it became possible to attack the authenticity of one document, the entire story lost traction. Other supporting evidence ceased to matter.

13. Summarizing
1. They release giddy promos to the right wing blogheads over their orgasmic little docuganda of bullshit.

2. They know the film maker is as right quadrant a biased Clinton hater as you could dig out of the neocon Nazis.

3. They pull their ABC blog because the whip marks on their collective asses was already starting to burn.

4. They don't have one Democrat advisor or "conspirator" consulted or involved in the making of the crockumentary.

5. They won't even send a screening copy to the Democrats they are about to slander. However viagra vomit face gets a copy. Isn't that special.

6. They are about to attempt to diminish the credibility of one of the most popular presidents ever who presided over the best economy ever.

7. The extent of lies presented as fact in this farce that are going to be exposed is going to have ABC scrambling for their lawyers.

This is so top loaded with repercussions for ABC, the executives that signed off on this are going to be drinking Pepto Bismol by the quart.

It will start right after they make the irretrievable mistake of putting it on the air. And it will come from every direction.

See if I'm not right. ABC, you will be forever known as a blatant right wing visual media rag. Like the sound of that?
