Bush's reading list and Ricky Bobby
In Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby, the French driver is reading Camus' "The Stranger" while driving in one scene.

Anyone think that this is why king george pretends that he read that book while drinking heavily in Texas?

1. He actually claims that he read that book?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Oh, man, that's rich, really rich. I've known extremely bright college profs who've had trouble with that book, some of the brightest people I know have had trouble with that book, and the First Frat Boy actually expects us to believe he even attempted to do so? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! He couldn't even make it past the first few words, let alone the first sentence.

2. not all who read, comprehend
Bush probably reads the words, just to go through the motions.

I highly doubt he even thinks on a level where he would stop and contemplate meaning and symbolism and things like that.

He probably takes a ten-year-old's approach.

6. he has a 90-second attention span (tops)
which means it would take him way over a year to read the book

even then, his brain damage would make him unable to connect what he read before with what he read later

plus, as you say, he has no ability to actually contemplate thematic or symbolic meanings, I doubt he could even parse the basic plot.

9. Hell, he probably read it just like he did everything else in his life
started the book, lost interest, and had someone else finish it for him

4. "Salt" twice
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 10:37 PM by cory817
Yeah the reading lists are obviously fake, I remember around this time last year they put out his reading list and "Salt" was on there because I read it around that time, and I notice it's included in this years list again. He may read something who knows, but the reading lists are either to surprise people and make him look not like an idiot or they've got some endorsement deal.

8. I expected so little of it, too
I have a friend who I know would especially love it, since one major plotline is how a Formula One driver starts driving NASCAR and completely owns everyone...

But, having the main nemesis be a gay French F1 driver was just perfect!
