A question with the filibuster deal
Edited on Sat Jan-21-06 03:37 PM by FreedomAngel82
I was just thinking about the filibuster deal. Someone recently posted saying that Frist was telling some people the democrats are scuring around to get votes. I don't buy it personally because I think this could've been a leak to make them look stronger and for us to give up on calling and all that. Could the reason why the democrats aren't going to filibuster is because they might not have enough votes to get Alito through? Why else would Lindsay Graham put the wife up for her little "crying" thing? They had to do something to get people to tell the democrats to back off and let him slide through. I could be way wrong of course but just a thought I had.
On edit I also wanted to add why are they waiting till the end of the month to get him through? They did Roberts pretty quickly so why him so slow?

1. They should delay the Alito vote till after the Impeachment
We should not take one more step on the road toward the Police State. STOP the Fascist march NOW

2. I hope so
Maybe they can hold off long enough until Specter has his NSA hearings. Hopefully bipartisan of course (with Kennedy, Feingold, Levin, Leahy).

8. debate
Committe votes on Tuesday, floor debate starts on Wednesday, baring a filibuster final vote will probably be on Friday. If they don't finish by Friday then I would not be surprised to see Frist have the Senate in session on Saturday to get it done before Bush gives his State of the Union.

5. It's not over yet! Durbin said there was intense opposition to Alito from
many Senators! The door has not closed. Keep calling and emailing and FAXing!

6. When I called Specter's office the other day, the staffer sounded
exasperated like, Oh hell here's another one calling with this NO plea. I hope the so called moderates are getting the picture that more than just us moonbats are opposing Alito.

4. I hadn't heard the news
that "....the democrats aren't going to filibuster...."

I've been off line for a little less than a day. Did something happen? Do you have a link?

7. Read around DU
Some are saying "no" and some are saying "we're not done yet." Feingold said "no" but Reid and Durbin said they're not done yet.

10. Did Feingold say he would vote to block a filibuster?
I ask this because saying he didn't think the votes are there and declaring his intension to block a filbuster are two very different things.

11. I'm not sure
From what I know he's just said "no" to a filibuster and it won't happen. I believe he is voting against Alito.

9. it would be nice, but I doubt it. What repubs aren't going to vote for him
AFAIK, only Chaffee has expressed hesitation.

It is much more likely that the Dems can't get 40 votes to sustain the filibuster than that the Repubs can't get 50 to get him through.

12. Ignore any dissinformation you might hear in the next few days.
There is a real good chance that it is a GO. Keep calling, faxing, etc
