Canadian PM Harper using same "support troops" club as Bush admin.
LTTE from todays Toronto star:

Canada's Afghan mission

Stephen Harper, during a speech to his caucus Aug. 3, said that Liberals are divided on "whether or not to support our troops in Afghanistan." This is a despicable comment and a bald-faced lie. Every politician, of every stripe, supports our troops. Harper did the same thing back in May during a debate on the Afghan mission. "We want to be sure that our troops have the support of this Parliament going forward" was his threat at that time, implying that if Parliament did not vote his way then the troops would not be supported. I ask Harper to stop using our troops for his own political gain. They have the unconditional support of all Canadians.

This accusation that opposition isn't "supporting the troops" is not unfamiliar to a Canuck like myself who watches my Southern friends.

Seeing this re-occuring is disturbing.

1. So what was the rationale for teaching the libs a lesson....
when faced with the possibility of Harper as PM? I'm sorry, but I didn't think it was a good idea before the election, and everything I feared about it is happening. For those Canadians who wanted to teach the liberals a lesson, or didn't vote at all when faced with the choices, well, you deserve what you're getting just like the US deserves Bushco!

4. I think the damage is repairable. He'll be out in a few months..
The next election will give us a chance to make our priorities known to government, and express our rejection of war mongering and Bush-style politics.
