A Miami man who told authorities he had 80 guns in a moving van has been indicted on federal charges of possessing machine guns and hand grenades.
James J. Parsons, 67, was arrested July 20 after federal agents found a German World War II machine gun, British World War II-era Sten machine gun and a Browning machine gun, along with machine gun parts, ammunition and three live hand grenades in the truck Parsons was renting. None of the guns was registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. snip
After officers obtained a search warrant, Parsons said he had three unregistered machine guns in the truck. Agents found the guns, gun parts, ammunition and three live hand grenade bodies with plugs and live fuse in a box containing 1 pound of black gun powder.
If convicted, Parsons could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Anderson County deputies say they found live hand grenades and explosives while responding to a call early Saturday morning.
The suspect, Brad Smith, age 43, was taken into custody, while the victim, Michelle W. Daniels, age 33, alerted deputies that live hand grenades and bomb making materials were on the premises.
Deputies searched and found a variety of bomb-making components and instruction manuals, along with one completed explosive device. They also found an assault rifle and two hand guns.
The Knox County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad was called for assistance, and detonated the explosive device at the scene. snip
Smith is also a suspect in the rape of a 14 year old girl that allegedly occurred at his residence on July 21.
