Task force: We should produce an official denouncement of the President.
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 03:12 PM by originalpckelly
The shadow of tyranny is falling over America.

There are millions of good Americans out there who know the truth. They know that terrorists have killed thousands of people, but they remember that tyrannical governments have killed millions of people. That is why they oppose the beginnings of tyranny as if they were the ends of tyranny. They know that when it finally does become obvious, it will be too late to stop tyranny.

It may already be too late, but we must try our hardest to oppose this tyrannical regime in every single way possible.

The American Dream is now the American Nightmare.

I propose as our first measure of resistance that we all draft some sort of official denouncement of all the illegal and tyrannical activities of the current administration. It should also contain strong consequences if the grievances listed are not resolved through traditional means. The consequences should escalate in severity for the lack of response to the grievances. The strongest of such is the creation of a new Declaration of Independence, to be submitted to the various states for approval.

If you agree with this, it would be a good idea to in this thread begin a list of all grievances against this administration. It might also be constructive to list possible consequences for a lack of responsiveness to the grievances (in the official denouncement.)

It has been suggested by some, that this should be in the form of a petition. Other have also suggested a physical non-electronic petition for the psychological benefits of a large stack of papers with signatures on it.

*This comes as a result of the Bush Admin officially going too far: They want to arrest people without trials and hold them indefinitely.*

1. I guess I'll get the ball rolling...

The President or someone acting on his behalf, authorized the National Security Agency to spy on Americans without a court order.

The President must act within the only authority given to him in the US Constitution. The "Commander-in-Chief" clause is not specific in delegating authority to the President, and should not be taken as a grant of power aside from the statement itself, which indicates the President is supposed to be the apex in the chain of command.

2. One consequence could be...
some sort of general strike. Of course that is hard to do since it requires a number of people to be effective.

4. grievances
They were AWOL when the American people needed their help in New Orleans. Bush was partying, Rice was shopping. They tried to blame it on a newly organized FEMA that was now under Homeland Security. However the President himself should have been intimately involved in overseeing the rescue of those people.

Of course, then there is the illegal invasion of Iraq, destruction of Iraqi infrastructure, and failure to provide enough ground troops once we did invade. Continued failure to provide protection for troops, bare basics of body armor and metal plates under trucks to protect from bombs.
