Munich was an AMAZING movie **couple of small spoilers but nothing big**

Okay first the two types of critics.

To those who say that this movie is pro-Israel get your head out of your ass and actually see the movie. If you actually pay attention to this movie the message of it which is clear as crystal is that violence just begets violence; even the characters begin to ponder after awhile when they kill off their target another meaner version just replaces the original and a neverending cycle ensues.

Secondly there is a scene which involves a teen boy witnessing his parents getting assasinated by the Israeli group in their own bedroom. That friends is how a terrorist is born and clearly Spielberg was showing this scene for its point blank effect in the hows and whys around the reasons an otherwise sane human being would be driven to commit murder and violence.

The other type of critic is the one who says it's not 100 percent accurate. Well it's probably not to the core; but ultimately the main events are true it's the more sideline things that probably aren't (the one very humorous scene in the movie that involves the Israeli group and a small group of Palestinians who must share a room together and a fight is about to erupt between a Jew and an Arab over what to play on the radio-The Arab wants an Egyptian sounding song while the Israeli wants a more Jewish sounding song.

Finally the Jew selects an Al Greene song ("I'm soo in loove with you").....and the both look at eachother poised....but then smile and nod to eachother.

So you know maybe that part is fiction but it made for a great scene and message I thought.

Great story though, great message. Quite frankly this movie needs to be seen by all who think the issue of terrorism is as simple as our fearless leader tries to paint it-it's US vs THEM.

See it. SOON. NOW.

4. Frankly his later work has been very good
Schindler's list, Minority Report, Armistad, Munich all good films. His early work is awful to mediocre. Close Encounters is dumb, ET manipulative, The Color Purple mediocre, Duel is his only good early film. Jurassic Park is OK, the sequals are terrible. Speilberg was for a very long time a technically brilliant director with nothing much to say.

10. It's a movie and movies are manipulative by nature.
It's difficult to tell a story in 2 hours without being manipulative. I know lots of people who say the same thing about ET. I always just say, who cares? It was still entertaining, and since most movies are made to entertain, I got my money's worth.

My other post was actually just a jibe, no need to take it seriously.

6. I guess * hasn't seen the movie either
or he would have learned the lesson:

that violence just begets violence

7. Has the real Avner said anything about the movie?
I've heard the criticism that it isn't historically accurate,
I'm wondering if he's commented on that.

9. I agree with your assessment. I found it to be very thought-
provoking and disturbing and corageous. It's a subject that requires a Spielburg to address...very difficult and complex and fraught with danger. I learned a lot and recommend it!

11. I found myself almost crying over the background (!) of the last scene
I was looking at the image thinking, "I know that isn't real", and upset with myself because I knew I should be trying to pay attention to what the characters were saying.

12. Obviously that scene was panned up for a reason
You think you feel terrible? the next thought I had while studying the digitized twin towers was "Hey...that Citibank wasn't built in the 70's"

Still though very powerful way to end it.

15. even worse ...
I'm an academic, and one of the topics I research is "the fictionalization of landscapes" (both for real-life settings such as tourist resorts and themed housing developments, and settings intentionally created for movies and TV -- like the outdoor Teletubbies set and the vistas in "Lord of the Rings" which were digitally stitched together using several different locations). I found myself thinking, "hmm -- I wonder if I can incorporate this NYC skyline scene into a paper?" I just couldn't help it!

13. Great film

I didn't understand the critics claiming it was morally "ambiguous".

It shows the destructive nature of revenge and the cycle of violence as well as what killing people does to the killer. Overall, I found it extremely dark and disturbing.

14. I'm Glad Spielberg Took This Approach
If Munich would have been just a one-sided movie embraced by the people who drank the Kool-Aid, I would have been pretty upset with Spielberg. I don't want a bunch of neocon propaganda. While I don't like the terrorists, I don't think they just created themselves. Something drove them to that type of life. And Israel *has* turned into something just as bad as the people they are fighting, unfortunately. And America is going down the same path. It is just so sad. Why can't people fight this type of battle without turning into the enemy?
