Kucinich:Unrest In Middle East Underscores Need To Bring Our Troops Home
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 07:22 PM by Camp_Democracy
http://www.commondreams.org/news2006/0717-20.htm

“The continuing violence in the Middle East is spiraling out of control and everyday brings the world closer to the brink of a full-blown regional war in which there will be no winners.

“The US has a moral obligation to become engaged diplomatically, immediately. The region urgently needs diplomatic assistance. The US must reclaim its role as a mediator.

“Time is running out. Violence is escalating. Innocent civilians are being killed.

“As the region continues to erupt in violence that worsens by the day, our soldiers in Iraq are becoming increasingly at risk....

“The solution is not only to immediately engage diplomatically in the region, but also to remove our troops from Iraq.

“This Administration which has an unfortunate talent for war, must actively seek a peaceful solution to the growing regional conflict, and make immediate preparations to bring our troops home.

1. Unfortunately, no-one in power is listening....

Dennis' voice just gets lost in the tumult.

This quote from the release needs posting here as well.

"“It is impossible to separate the failed US policy in Iraq from the broader regional conflict. This Administration’s actions in Iraq have left the region considerable less stable."

I support Dennis wholeheartedly......something I cannot say with a straight face for most gov't officials.

2. Dennis speaks for us, not because he can convince Bush....
but so we can have a leader to rally behind and hope...that there are decent people in our government. We must find more public servants like him and throw the current batch out.

And where are the other democrats on this issue?

3. Too bad DK doesn't have a support system to back him up
his own MoveOn.org

WHERE ARE THE OTHER DEMOCRATS??? Does everyone realize that Bush is allowing this slaughter in Lebanon to continue without question and we have NO OTHER DEMOCRATIC LEADERS standing up and questioning his 'leadership'. Isn't anyone else worried about this?????

4. Those in power will not listen until
rank-and-file voters listen. Until voters quit hiding behind the "electability" bullshit that enables the ignoring. If everyone who agreed in principle with DKs stance on most of the issues stood up and called, campaigned, and voted for him, those in power would sure as hell sit up and take notice.

Just like they did in '04, AFTER the convention. Suddenly, things he'd been saying all along that had been pointedly ignored suddenly showed up in speeches by "those in power," as if they'd manufactured those ideas all by themselves.

5. Finally a Democrat is pushing for diplomacy.
I know the Republicans are using the whole affair for the up coming Iran war, but the Dems stance of basically cheering Israel on (and I do believe in thier right to defend themselves) has amazed me. Diplomacy should be first on everyones mind. I dont care about who has the right to attack who. War might be great for some well placed Americans, but continued conflict will kill innocents, and will cause gas prices here to skyrocket.
