Oh, for God's sake...the fact that he said "shit" ISN'T THE POINT.
The point is that the President of the United States, in his infinite wisdom, has effectively boiled the entire Middle East conflict (arguably the most complex problem of our time) to, "hey guys, knock it off."

Stay on target, people. Who cares about him saying "shit"? I say that word ten times an hour.

3. Personally, I don't give a shit
about the use of the word. His entire statement does show that this simpleton is not qualified to the Pres. of the USA.

6. No one but the Conservatives on the other boards, and Fox News
With the exception of the first couple of threads, are people really that miffed at Bush's "shit" remark? Not that I can see. The only people freaking out about it are the freaks on CU and Freeperville, who are claiming we're frealing out about it. IOW, totally missing the point, as usual. By now, we're all used to the Chimp's simian public speaking abilities. No one seems to cheesed off about it...what everyone on the liberal boards seems to be shocked about is just how atrocious our president's manners are, and how poorly he handles himself when representing us in front of the world, and how he seems to have absolutely no grasp about what is actually going on in the Middle East unless he reads it in a progress report from Halliburton. He is an utter embarrassment. I could give a shit about his language. He is an idiot.

10. No, but it's partly the common and course language
and the chewing with his mouth open, and his chewing while talking.

It's the sign of a boorish and uncouth person, someone that has no social graces other than popping a tab on a six pack of beer. Someone who isn't very smart and doesn't think much of smart people.

Not someone you want as leader of the "free world" (rapidly becoming much less free).

Another result of his shortcomings is exactly what you said. Simplistic answers to any and all problems in the world, and no ability to think ahead.

11. I don't care that he said it either
but talking with his mouth full really grossed me out. Actually I think the reason that CNN et al are covering it is trying to get back his macho image. They figure the fundies will just say "he is a godly man and god will forgive."

12. I don't think it is an appropriate word in that setting for a president
It doesn't matter how many times YOU say it. I say it too. But neither of us is the president of the US and neither if us is at a summitt of world leaders talking to the PM of Great Britain into an open mic.

I would be willing to bet that neither of us talks with our mouth full either.

Besides it's all Kofi Annan's fault for sitting on his ass. :sarcasm:

Just like the rest of his family. I always got a kick out of the way Nancy Reagan looked down on the Boosh Klan. She knew trash when she saw it.

Nixon or Johnson and their meetings in the Oval Office? Saying "shit" is nothing...

The fact that * is an ill-mannered bumpkin makes all Americans look bad to the rest of the world.

It should be pointed out that a bush family barbecue was very well depicted in the camp-fire scene in Blazing Saddles.

Maybe with that explanation, the world will understand.

16. It is the setting and the example that matters
So what if we say "shit" ten times a day? Or even if the Prez says it? This is a goddamned meeting of the most influential world leaders.

You don't go to someone else's house for dinner and openly swear, and you don't go to a formal public meeting where you are going to get attention, and pepper your language with those kinds of words. How stupid can this doofus be to not know the press is there, the mikes are on and he's talking with his mouth full?

Makes me think about that commercial where he badmouths Mama Barbera's cooking. . .no wonder he has no manners.

18. plus he's also simplified the UN Secretary-General's job description ...
... to "someone who will do my bidding and make a few calls for me". I'm surprised he didn't tell "Kofi" to fetch donuts and take minutes at the next meeting, since he's supposed to be a "secretary", right?

I thought Bush's arrogant, careless mannerisms provided a nice insight into how he approaches the presidency (for anybody who hadn't gathered this already!). And the disrespectful attitude he has ... I've worked for people like this, plus I've had to supervise people who had that kind of mindset, and I don't know which is worse. Either way, they cause trouble and seem blissfully unaware of how much effort the rest of us have to put into cleaning up after them.
